If Pat was consistent in his challenging of those whose expertise and competence he thinks is questionable (like he thinks of NIAC etc.), then he wouldn't be half as irritating. For example, he did an interview with Daniella Moyles (some media 'personality') a few weeks ago and allowed her to promote her self-help book and throw around her 'expertise' on mental health and Pat just lapped it up.
Oh, I remember that. In fact, I can specifically remember where I was at the time, because I recall laughing at Pat, who was phoning it in.

I remember thinking 'what a load of rubbish', and I got the distinct impression so did Pat Kenny.

Are those book promotions paid for by the publishers? I can't understand why Pat Kenny would entertain half of them, otherwise.

Ciara on talking about the wonders of antigen testing to some posh sounding English Professor.

Bound to get Pat wound up for the day :pac:

It’s all a misunderstanding. Compared to PCR, which tells you of you’ve been infectious in the last week or two, you’d expect a 50% accuracy rate from the antigen tests.

Case closed, go get ‘em, Pat!

I honestly thought he was going by open with it. Bloody Varadkar and his United Ireland stealing his thunder.

Did that ‘compared to PCR you’d expect a 50% accuracy’ bit sound a little like Sex Panther working 60% of the time every time to you?

I'm on a sabbatical (maybe permanent) from Pat. I listened to Boucher Hayes filling in on RTE discussing antigen testing. Not usually a fan of his, but it was a calm and balanced (imo) discussion and helped me to understand the whole thing a little more. Quite a difference to the sh1show rant from Pat yesterday.

I wish Newstalk would get its shit together, I want to hear Pat's rant about antigen testing, I don't know why.

Last time they uploaded a PK show was June 11.

Yesterday's antigen rant is (I think) up on the goloud app as a podcast (travel bans, greater quarantine restriction is the title).....agree about Newstalk, they're a bit hit and miss as are Today FM (presume same people are doing the uploading) as the Last Word was similarly late in sticking up the Listen again, though there are variations within certain shows - rather less useful the Breakfast show are generally quicker but would you be arsed listening to that........

The antigen test hangs around its neck, like the old St Bernard on a mountain rescue mission.

Wall to wall antigen all morning on Newstalk

Now Luke O'Neill on preaching as well. The two chuckling away together

I've been having a break from Pat since his last obnoxious antigen test rant, but I couldn't resist tuning in this morning to hear the comments on NPHET's Oireachtas meeting yesterday. Regardless of your views on antigen testing, to hear a (once) leading national broadcaster and a professor from our 'top' university sneering and laughing like two schoolboys about our public health officials was just appalling imo. And Pat's comment that NPHET are probably not backing down on antigen testing because of himself and Luke O'Neill's coverage of it on his show...ffs how deluded can you get. I switched off at that point.

I've lost all respect for Pat at this stage as a (balanced) broadcaster. He's becoming a bit of a joke. I'm done once and for all.

I was on a phone call until the end and he made some sneery remark praising Luke's stance on Antigen and having a go at NIAC/NPHET. Must listen back to the rest.

Same here (although I wouldn't be as big a fan of CB). Boucher Hayes seems to be filling in at the moment, so I think I'll just enjoy the silence this week.

Maybe Pat will be tolerable again at some point...when antigen testing has been officially rolled out, vaccines are mixed, NIAC/NPHET/HSE all apologise for being wrong about everything and when himself and Luke O'Neill are finally put in charge of the country's public health.

you turned off at a good point. He went on to say that GP's may have been too busy to be able to keep up with all the new testing that's available (like Pat).

    He's slowly going insane

What has happened to the real Pat Kenny?

Pats rant against NPHET and NIAC was embarrassing.

Did Pat suggest /state that 'thousands of deaths could have been avoided at Christmas if we had used Antigen testing ' ?

He's back on it now again.

Pat really needs a few trips to the south of France and Patrick Guilbauds.

Honestly, I think that after, more than, a year of not getting an answer as to why we never used antigen testing, while getting expert advice that they are a useful “tool”, has gotten to him.

There seems to be evidence backing him up, although NPHET have their own evidence against them, but it’s coming across like the early advice against the wearing of masks.

He’s been smelling a rat for a long time and it’s bothering him now.

We did get a couple of minutes with a northern unionist. It looks like the options ahead are a hard boarder with nationalist violence or a sea border with unionist violence.

Personally for me it's not necessarily what he's saying that's at issue here, as he is making some fair points.
It's moreso how he's saying it.

This whole sneering attitude. And my lord but this morning was masterclass in it.
Im paraphrasing here but one of his comments today was that HSE website is so out of date they are still calling them face coverings. Like really... does the phrase really matter that much you feeling need to raise it?
And the arrogance of saying that the only reason Holohan hasn't backed down on antigen testing is because of Luke and himself.
It's like he thinks they're all idiots that don't know anything about what they've spent years studying, so he'll talk about them as if they're completely stupid.
I had to switch off today as he was just so patronising, arrogant and rude it became embarrassing.

I haven't listened back to the earlier shows this week, but tuned in this morning, and this sums it up for me.

Pat is right, lets face it. It's his tone that seems to be bothering people, but who has ever accused Pat Kenny of being charismatic? Audiences like him for his blunt, logical approach to problems, *ipso facto*.

I think this time it was hard not to sneer at nphet show yesterday. Showing how tests could be faked, it smells of attitude we have to lock everyone in because people can't be trusted. Why would you bother faking antigen test if you don't need to take it.

I must admit it bothers me immensely that top health officials completely infantilised the whole nation. I'm far from anti vaxxer or anti lockdown but how is this tolerated by people it really baffles me. To me it reminds me of catholic Church behaviour decades ago. Pat is annoying with his antigen crusade but today he had a point. WE are all treated as naughty children by health officials.

Have to agree, rather pathetic and childish behaviour as was that actual hearing yesterday, I watched it live and my god it was a pantomime and not a funny one. Politicians absolutely clueless, NPHET whilst 100% on the same page behaved like a rowdy secondary school chemistry class, poking each other to get back up, bizzare tonic water test, it was utterly mortifying to watch.

I'm quite shocked Luke O Neill not trying/pretending at least to sound objective

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

I would have agreed in the past but not anymore...

Patronising and sniggering is not the same as blunt.

Claiming that the CMO and NPHET are not backing down on antigen testing because of himself and Luke O'Neill...is that logical...really?

If it works for you, happy listening, but the level of obnoxious arrogance (even if I agree with some of his points) on this whole thing has just coloured my perception of Pat too much...and I had been a real admirer of his for many many years.

He's still the best broadcaster in Ireland, Ill be listening to him as long as he's broadcasting (Book Club aside!).

It's really not that difficult at all not to sneer if you're paid handsomely to be a national broadcaster. I heard Kingston Mills being interviewed by Sarah McInerney yesterday and he was very dismissive of the whole faking the test with butter/tonic water thing (rightly so imo), but the two of them didn't spend 5 minutes laughing at the entire counter arguments and 'pat' each other on the back for being right about everything.

As for the Catholic Church comparison...Jaysus, I'll just leave that one there.

I watched it and was pretty much my take on it too. Nobody covered themselves in glory. The holding up of the antigen test and butter/tonic water thing was a bit mortifying...not a good decision by NPHET...but not as mortifying as some of the contributions by some of the committee (Michael Lowry, Michael McNamara).
