Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Stellaris - where to start?

    Hi all,

    Recently got a new PC and Stellaris has been on my must play list for a while, however looking at the store it seems theres lots of DLC and expansions to buy.

    My question is, is there a starter pack or a set of "must have" DLC i should get?

    As a Paradox game, there are some essential dlc packs, that really make the game feel more complete. At a minimum, i would recommend the below for anyone planning to play it. The story packs are essential for me, as i love the events that are added to the game.
      Tier 1
      [*]Utopia
      [*]Apocalypse
      [*]Megacorp (never use these features, but some mods require it i think)
      [*]Federations
      [*]Nemesis
      • Tier 2
      • Leviathans story Pack
      • Synthetic Dawn story pack
      • Distant Stars story pack
      • Ancient Relic story pack
      • Lithoids species pack*
      • Necroids species pack*
      • Tier If you really love the game
      • Everything else

      There is a "starter pack" on Steam, which includes Utopia, Apocalypse and two story packs (Leviathans and Synthetic Dawn). The sale ended just a few days ago, though.

      I like the story packs, I thought they added a lot of variety to all the events.

      The species packs I'd only get if you had everything else and wanted more.

      One option would be the Xbox game pass (for PC), which has the standard editions of pretty much all the main Paradox games.

      I got most of my DLC by checking gg.deals, you can set up alerts for when they hit certain prices.

      I think basically everyone says Utopia is the most essential DLC.

      I've gotten most of the DLCs @ 75% off so patience does pay off. (recently got Federations for €4.99)

      Picked up the Starter pack, which has Utopia and Apocalypse, and will get Nemesis once i get into the groove of the game

      One piece of advice. Do not settle on any planets near Fallen Empires. They do not like that.

      Remember on my first games, best the mid game crises, was doing very well, found a Gia world, settled it, a while later got a message from an fallen civ demanding I leave one of their sacred worlds. I refused and they proceeded to slowly wipe out my empire and their was nothing I could do. Felt like Earth vs the Mimbari in Babylon 5.
