Stage 21: Senago – Milano 30.3 km ITT

    Sunday, May 30th, 13.35 CEST

    Technical Overview:

The final stage of the Giro is, as usual recently, an ITT, but this time it is the only “long” one, like it happened last time in 2012. From Senago to Milano, the road will always be pan flat, but it will not be straight all the way. The route is divided into three parts by the two intermediate checkpoints, in Cascina Battiloca (km 9.2) and Sesto San Giovanni (km 18.8). Of these three sectors the last one is the most power-friendly, featuring long straights with turns only at the end into the city center, to get to the usual finish line in front of the Duomo.

    What to expect:

It is a time trial for pure specialists in a Giro that barely has any time trials… Gaps should be fairly consistent but it all depends on how the GC looks like coming into the stage.

Ganna had a flat on his run and lost @15 seconds, so he is currently fastest, but might be beatable!

Cavagna made a mess of one of the final corners, he was on target to be very close to Ganna's time until the crash.

Yeah - strange one - its almost like he didn't even see the corner - too much speed and on the wrong side of the road for a left-hander.

They just interviewed him there - he said he was going full gas and forgot about the corner!

Sounds about right, he would have been very close to Ganna without that mishap, could have cost him a stage win!

How da fook were there two or three cars in Sobrero's path there towards the end??! Never saw that before in a TT. I mean one car belonging to the team of the fella he was overtaking, I could understand, but there was at least one other one and one of them completely blocked him off. Costing him second currently as far as I could see.

Yep the end of this TT seems cursed for some riders, flats for Ganna, crash for Cavagna, and then poor Sobrero getting held up by car traffic!

Bernal wearing the face off his partner there at the finish line. Congrats to him. Hopefully, he goes to the Vuelta and squares off against Pogacar and Roglic.

Ganna wins the stage, Caruso solidifies his 2nd place, Yates stays 3rd, Bernal wins the race, and Martinez climbs to 5th place!

That would be great to see at the end of the season, a battle royale between the Slovenians and Bernal off the back of the Tour for the former and the Giro for the latter!

And of course, a few words from bullsh!t Dave at the finish.

Quite good grand tour that. Really good stage wins for Taco, Fortunato, Dan Martin, Campenaerts, Nizzolo, Sagan, the Strade Bianchi stage. Bernal himself is good craic too.

    Bring on the Tour :)

Caruso's win from yesterday deserves a mention too!

Honestly, IMO, that's the man of the race. Working flat out to help his leader and still finished 5th in GC. Fair play to him!
