Can I charge an xBox One controller with any micro USB charger or does it need to be a charging dock?

New ones are USB-C

Assuming your controller has a rechargeable battery pack (like this one), or you bought a rechargeable wireless controller, you can use any micro-usb charging cable. Most of these come with standard single use/disposable AA Alkaline batteries and you simply replace the batteries, or purchase an after-market rechargeable battery pack.
