Every time someone says something you get yourself in a panic about the various scenarios.

Publicans want July 1st, they've been told it's unlikely, why ? Well because there's usually 4 weeks between each opening which brings you to the week beginning the 5th, so your either likely to get the final nod to say yes that week and open the following week or get the nod the week before to open week of the 5th.

Can we at least wait until this Friday comes and goes

I presume if indoor dining gets the go ahead for june 2nd that the restaurants are threatening legal actions to be the same with , then indoor drinking will be allowed too, here's hoping

I really think they want to milk this as long as they can now until the budget in October where they can justify increasing tax like never before.

That absolute blowhard Adrian Cummins doesn't care about pubs unless they're gastro pubs, and the lawsuit is just his latest attempt to play politician.

The lawsuit also won't get off the ground. He's a muppet

The only saving grace is to remember MM is a barely coherent stumbling buffoon who would probably muddle his own date of birth if you asked him it. I wouldn't put any stock in any of his ad libbed off the cuff brain farts.

In saying that NPHET would love to turn the screw just one more time, three more weeks past our expected date, that type of thing.

Remember the day before full re opening was due last August it was cancelled due to a sudden, and wildly inconsistent, jump in the figures?

yeah i cant shake this awful feeling that NYPHET simply cant let pubs open before one last kick to head of the pub industry, before they leave the stage. Are they on TV on six 1 news still each evening?

That was around the start time of our second surge. Sept to Oct 20 as far as I can remember.

Am I hearing correctly that there will be a time limit on how long you can stay in the pubs when they actually are allowed to open? This is madness.

Indoors yeah looks like it, do you really think most places are actually going to keep to it?

Now let's be honest businesses are and were going to set their own limits while capacity is reduced. My local is going with 2hrs 30 mins, why ? Well because with reduced capacity it ensures a steady turnover of trade throughout the day.

Will they be asking regulars to leave ? Just like last year no they won't

Yeah the latest sounds like the time limit will apply for indoor dining and pubs. I agree that a lot of places will probably choose to ignore it or not implement it, but it's a stupid decision. It worked to some extent last year combined with the substantial meal rule but if there will be a time limit on just drinking then that will surely encourage pub crawls, pre drinking, after parties etc.

I wouldn't be bothered with going out for 2 hours and then home, I'm sure most people are the same. It doesn't annoy me hugely as it's easy enough to move onto another pub but what is the point of it at this stage.

You sound almost disappointed that some publicans will be taking certain liberties. Could one genuinely begrudge them after the hell they've been through over past 15 months? Most maligned sector in Ireland, abandoned by the government and subject to derisory nonsense like "Covid loves alcohol". And they've a few hurdles to negotiate yet as the indoor debate could potentially rumble on for months. I'll be returning to my regular haunt on June 7th, least I can do to support the local economy. Call it a civic duty, the good news is that I am far from alone.

Disappointed that some publicans will be taking certain liberties? Eh no. Its their business, they can do as they please, setting your own booking slots when you've limited capacity makes business sense. I'll be supporting local pubs regardless of whatever they go with from the 7th June and going forward.

I think you've misread the post to be honest.

Hoping most publicans ignore this stupidity and operate as normal. The old normal.

Can’t say i agree with time limits potentially coming back. Just let pubs open and trade and stop the messing about.

Again with this there will be a huge divide between the busy city and town centre pub and the rural or even quiet urban pub. I think they will be world apart. in some instances the quiet rural pub wont even bother with outdoors in 2 weeks if its a wet evening and its a secluded place. Gardai wont be around inspecting pubs this time. Probabaly the one or two PR inspections for the news cameras and catching some poor unfortunate.

You're forgetting the nosey curtain twitcher with a hotline to the local Garda station, they dwell amongst us still

not many around me thank God, and you would have your fill of beer sitting in at the fire before the gardai land at 12 oclock the next day.

I can see the time limits making sense for some restaurants, however for Pubs asking the regulars to move on doesn't make sense... It's better to have the same people sat there all day buying drinks than constantly moving people on, sanitizing tables every couple of hours..

Even for restaurants, if people are lingering on after their meal but ordering a few bottles of wine and beers etc. then there's more profit from Alcohol sales i'm sure...

i know in a village beside me, a curtin twicher called the gardai 3 times to call out to a pub last summer she said were getting in take away food and most people not having any food at all and no time limits, gardai landed out the next evening at 6 pm say tuesday evening, about 4 men inside all social disatnced eating a chipper, she called them the following week they landed out at 4pm it wasnt open, called them again a few days later and they landed at 7pm midweek evening, 3 or 4 men again inside , nothing out of place. they stopped coming out after that told the publican ignore her.

Lucky my local has a beer garden.

Anyone too drunk inside will be chucked out to the beer garden.

The count down begins....13 more days until pubs 'officially' open outdoors ...can wait to drop down to my local for a cuppa maybe even a whiskey in it to celebrate for once...Spare a thought for the musicians in your locals who have not been playing for over a year and when you listen to them next maybe drop an extra tip to them :D

Weather permitting, I am getting my daily walk in at 9AM. By walk I mean trekking into town, with a post-exercise breakfast roll afterwards.

Straight to one of my locals then at opening :D

Looking forward to going to my local Wet pub for a pint and a read of the newspaper..particularly on a Sunday afternoon. Only thing missing will be the football as the season is over.

Are there still early houses...remember with fondness one or two up in the big smoke when I used to work crazy hours and over night.

No pub is going to implement this time limit ****e especially in rural Ireland. Just pop out to beer garden(if they have one) for 1 and come back in! It’s ridiculous to be setting time limits it’s just plain pedantic and bowing to NPHET to plamause them! Fûck Nphet vaccines are working let businesses get back to work and let people get back to normal!

Failte Ireland likely advised that so that people move and spend more money in different pubs. has nothing to do with nphet
