They won't be live in the final, they said they don't want to perform without the guy who tested positive :( in that semi, so doubt anything different for final

I know ya but if there letting them into the final based off the rehearsal video they can't hold it against them when voting. I don't think the public vote will anyway.

So who am I going to put my money on?
Oh god I don't know honestly.
    Don't listen to me lol.
The running order for the final will be key.

If I had to pick one, Malta maybe?
I think might do well with both audience and juries.
The fact they have already sang live will give them a slight edge over Italy and France.

    I have top 5
Lithuania (not looking too good atm...but might sneak in...it's really fun)
Iceland (I think the fact they won't be live has fecked them alas)

    Top 10
Cyprus (I got good odds a while back, probably no value now)
Serbia (I got 8/1 on them, audiences will vote for them)

Cannot believe Denmark and Estonia didn’t get through.

I’m feeling Ukraine for the win. Could San Marino be a dark horse with a big name? Possibly Italy, but until I see them perform on stage, it’s so hard to tell. It’s all about the live performance and the energy the performers give off on the night.

Greece, Albania and Moldova very poor finalists. Thought Australia should have gone through the other night aswell.
I liked Australia, it was a bit odd but she could sing.
Its an ear worm as well.
I think the fact no audience etc didn't help her.

    Estonia????

Estonia's backing singer was doing the high notes and Uku was doing the low notes. Embarrassing tbh.

    Italy for the win.

Their 2020 entry was a belter too.

I still think Malta for the win though tonight Switzerland and Portugal impressed me. I am still not convinced about Italy.

Second semi weaker than the first, very little to call home about. Switzerland the stand out for me by a mile.

Iceland and Switzerland were both excellent and fully deserve to be among the favourites. San Marino was a very good energetic opener and deserved to qualify.

Bulgaria and Portugal were revelations, neither among my favourites this year but really came to life live. Both also fully deserve their places in the final.

Was really disappointed with Moldova, the studio version and music video is great (in a "guilty pleasure" way) but it felt really underwhelming live. She couldn't hit the lower notes and the stage looked too empty even with four dancers around her.

Wasn't surprised Finland got through, even though I thought it was a bit cringey.

Didn't care for Greece, Serbia or Albania; they were competently performed but would've swapped any of them out for Denmark.

From the NQ's: I thought Estonia was ok but coming after San Marino meant he never had a chance. Czech Republic wasn't very good live, even though the song was fun. Didn't care for Austria's song but he was excellent on stage, so felt bad for him. And even though I knew it had no hope of qualifying, I feel bad for Georgia; I'm one of the very few who actually liked that song. :o

This will be one of the hardest to predict Eurovisions in recent years, so looking forward to Saturday night. Have to say though Ukraine has been my favourite performance from the two semis, would love to see that win!

I think the final is wide open this year...very difficult to call.

Liked Switzerland, Iceland, Portugal, San Marino, Greece and Finland from tonight.

It's a bit strange that Maneskin are at Eurovision. They're a serious outfit! I happened to see them live in 2019 and they were brilliant (even if I barely understand Italian). Anyone who likes their entry should also check out their biggest domestic hit, Torna A Casa. Beautiful song.

My gf has Italian roots so we often end up listening to the Italian Top 50 on Spotify. It's refreshing that they still have a healthy mix of genres in their charts, and so many in their own (wonderful) language. Another young lad I saw live there, Ultimo, is definitely worth looking up.

Bulgaria dropped down the odds quite a bit tonight, now in 9th place behind Finland and Portugal. Bookies seem to think this is between Italy, Malta, France, Switzerland, Ukraine and Iceland now. I don't think France will contend and I think Iceland will be hurt by the lack of an audience, even if the tv broadcast disguises it reasonably well.

My initial hunch for how it will finish on Saturday, which will need a lot more thought once the dust has settled tomorrow, is:

    1. Italy
    2. Ukraine
    3. Malta
    4. Switzerland
    5. Iceland

Will need to watch performances back again and see how it all stacks up on Saturday night before I fully commit though!

I had thought the same, but having watched Barbara's full live performance on Youtube I'm now thinking she could easily win the jury vote and possibly even have a Salvador moment and win over televoters as well. She is very captivating live; I actually think Voilà comes to life on stage more than Zitti e buoni does, even though I prefer the latter as a studio cut.

Even though Italy was my early favourite I think they are slightly disadvantaged by the lack of live instruments; also I can't help but wish they'd incorporated the strings like they did at Sanremo because it sounded even more awesome with the orchestra.

Portugal seem to be having a bit of a "Common Linnets" moment, which is really nice to see. Nobody thought this song was going anywhere when it was chosen, now it seems everyone is raving about it! :)

If any of Italy, France, Ukraine, Iceland, Switzerland or Lithuania win I'll be happy. Would also be happy for Portugal, Russia or Belgium as more "outside" bets. And I wouldn't begrudge Malta or Bulgaria a win either, even though neither song is my favourite.

Just as long as Cyprus or Sweden doesn't win! :pac: (I do want Cyprus to win some time, just not with that rip-off of a song).

I'm the same. I think it has to be Malta or Switzerland. They are the best two by far. But you never know how it goes on the night.
I might end up laying off my bets. But at 12/1 Switzerland is a good one!

Theres actually something quite neat about the way Italy choose their entry - they use the San Remo festival, which is a fairly big deal as a domestic song contest over there and is separate to Eurovision entirely. The winners can choose to go to Eurovision if they'd like. Italy end up sending contemporary popular local artists solely because Eurovision isnt actually a massive thing there, and as such by accident they end up sending surprisingly contemporary stuff as they dont "try and do Eurovision" so to speak! Ultimo actually came 2nd in the 2019 San Remo festival too, so funny that you mention him!

    Interesting running order.

*Cyprus perhaps didn't so well in their semi if they're being chosen to go up first.
*Poor Albania getting the death slot for the second Eurovision in a row! :p
*Malta on a lot earlier than I would have expected!
*Iceland have been given #12, which Duncan Laurence won from last time. Following Switzerland though, which is two heavy hitters together. And poor Spain, having to follow both of them!
*Bulgaria-Lithuania-Ukraine-France is a very strong run of big hitters.
*Italy given a very good slot; after Netherlands nice-but-unfancied song and before Sweden's cliched dirge. Looks like a great draw for them.
*San Marino closing makes sense; keep the Flo Rida fans tuned in until the end! :pac:
