When is the closing date for grant applications? I didn't see anything on the SEAI site.

Thats anyone's guess. It's all speculation at the moment

We were debating this point. One reason to go with the battery is to power the heat pump when it's doing its late night thing. But that might be needed at a time of year when there is less sun to power the battery. On the other hand, we do have a very sunny aspect, so we're kind of sold on the battery thing, albeit a small battery.

So what is the power rating of the heat pump. A 2.4kW battery will give you about 2kW of usable power. If the Heat Pump was 1kW, then it will run it for 2hrs, and you'll save about 30c (for maybe 150days a year?) so saving about €45 annually !!!

But if you want to have Solar PV installed by an SEAI approved company, is there any alternative to paying this overhead? Are there any companies who install at lower margins? From reading through this thread, and from my own experience, it doesn't seem like it...

I've said it soooo many times - solar as a service from my*****.ie Google it. 7panels for 2400 in monthly payments of 20 for 10 years. But buy it out and then expand the system

Even ignoring the heat pump, you might be able to get 1-2 cycles a day out of the battery (through peak shaving, eg when you put on a kettle the battery fills the gap and then it gets topped up again through solar) - on the good days.

Back of envelope math, on average, a Best case scenario,

You get a full cycle for every day of the year. Your still only talking about 100ish euro a year saving on a 2.4 kwh battery.

BPE Inverters have a lot of that battery charge/discharge functionality

All the inverter/battery combined systems tend to have better software config options but are more expensive. Pity Solis has only the one time setting.

The Sofar ME3000 has 4 and the ability to control the inverter via Modbus. So you could automatically charge the batteries based on the expected weather for the following day.

I'm looking at these at the moment. If anyone wants to PM me the name of an installer that they'd be happy to recommend I'd appreciate it. I'm based in Portmarnock.

I'm a complete novice looking at this and have just called one place so far. Roughly speaking after the grant he was talking about roughly €4,500 for an 8 panel system with a diverter (no battery). To add a battery and another 4 panels I think it was going to between 6 and 8 thousand after the grant.

I suppose I'll phone a few and get a proper idea of how they compare.

I really need to invest time to look at this Sofar setup, time is just not there at the moment though....

Check out the solar as a service. 2.52kw 7 for 2400 after grant or 20 a month for 10 years

I think I'd class it as 'ok' but not as good as you could get. I got 12 panels and a 5kwh battery for ~900 less than that but I already had an Eddi so say 500e in the difference. Also had some of the AC wiring in place but I don't think it's 500e worth.

I'd go back and haggle and see if you can get a bit more off :)

Yeah i would hanmer them down, i got 14 panels, eddi, zappi 2, 4.8 kwh battteries and myenergie hub etc for 7k after grant.
Remember they are pulling 3/4 k euro for 2 days work so dont mind hurting their feelings !!!

Do you really need a hybrid/battery setup? You won't have all of that 2.4kWh available, it won't even do a full washing machine/dishwasher run.
I'd get a quote minus the battery and if you can, put more panels up.
    What size inverter?

Forgot to mention, i did actually get him down to 6100, when i was asking how much would be with say 8 panels and no battery, so 6100 with everything i mentioned already?
He said battery would be 1000, but get 600 of that back from the grant?
Inverter is a RHI 3.6k 48es solis hybrid mppt

There is very little cost difference to get you up to a higher inverter, say 5kW

Lads, is there much difference performance-wise/reliability-wise between different brands of panels? Trying to compare quotes and no idea. Also, have had a couple of installers trying to push the Huawei battery and talking down Pylontech etc. Is it really worth the extra money? It's probably out of our budget anyway, but is it a false economy to go for cheaper batteries i.e. will the Huawei last that much longer that it will work out better?

I got some no-Name Chinese panels a few years back and they appear to have degraded a nice bit already. But tis nearly impossible to say how good or bad a new panel that you buy today will be because a lot of them haven't been out that long

I think the system on grading panel suppliers Tier 1, Tier 2 etc is more to do with the financial strength and stability of the company making the panels to give PV Farm operators confidence that the Company will be around to honour the warranty.

    5.25kW from the 5.4kW panels @161degrees SSE

    Went in yesterday.
I'm going to hate the arrow pointing towards the grid, am I not?
