Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Anyone recommend a GPS for anti bike theft?

    Is it worthwhile?

    Does it make any difference ?

    At first glance, the airtags might seem to be a viable option because:
    • they are relatively small/discreet
    • they can operate for up to a year on a single battery
    • they are weather resistant
    • they are relatively cheap
    • they may be more effective than competing products (i.e. Tile) due to the proliferation of iOS devices out there (and thus the increased likelihood that someone with an iOS device may wander within reception of an airtag)

    However, it's worth noting the following:
    • in order to work, they are reliant on a user with a supported iOS device (running at least iOS 14.5) coming within range of the tag - so they will work more effectively in densely populated areas - and less effective in more remote locations.
    • it is possible to detect their presence - if the thief has an iOS device, it will report the presence of any airtags (which don't belong to them) which appear to be 'travelling with them' - they can then use the iOS device to pinpoint the location of the tag - even if they don't, the airtag will start beeping after 3 days out of contact with its owner - so potential thieves will be able to identify and remove them easily. Even if they don't have an iOS device, if they have a NFC reader they could still potentially scan the frame for the presence of a tag (although it might take a little bit more time/effort)

    Personally, I see them as more of tool for locating 'lost' items rather than for tracking 'stolen' items. That said, they are better than nothing at all.

    Yeah as an anti stalking feature the airtag will snitch on itself.

    Tile is useless.
