Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Welcome to Boardsies Greatest Original Song tournament

Following on from the greatest cover song I ran last year which was won by Nirvana - The man who sold the world, will we see the David Bowie version here?

Qualifying round will consist of 12 matches
Each match will consist of 3 songs with only going on to round 1
1 best second place song will also go through, a play-off will be held if needed.

Round 1 will consist of 128 songs and further info will be announced before each round.

Best of luck to all songs and I hope we all have fun and find something new.

    Good morning Kolido!

    I will vote for:
Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes - Don't Leave Me This Way

It is one of the songs initially in my top-20 selection, but didn't make the final cut

Same 4 me. I think Tarantino used it in a couple of his films.

John Michael Montgomery - I Swear
    • Didn't know All-4-One was a cover :p
    • Really like the famous version
    • ...and this stood up to that well

Those three facts together are the point of this tournament for me, so it gets my vote

...but just for clarity, it's a terrible song :D

I absolutely hate the cover of this song, the original is best!

Cream for Spoonful and The Doors for Back Door Man would be the biggest ones.

Well there was a dance version that was fairly popular in the early Noughties I think

Missed the first few as usual, and then arrive in for a tough decision, as all 3 songs here are worthy of my vote, and a particularly tough call between Jimmy Webb and Patti Smith...

By a nose hair, I'll go with...

    Jimmy Webb - The Highwayman

Jimmy Webb - The Highwayman though I wouldn't mind if Patti Smith gets through either.
