Revenue are looking at this old chestnut anew since Covid so have a look and see is it an issue for your work if you are self employed.
Its an employer issue but does have cash flow implications for you if you are deemed an employee

Is this specific to the construction industry?
There are a lot of “contractors” in large multinational companies here (pharma, IT, etc.)

No, just look at the list of what constitutes an employee.
The last trawl was in the companies you mentioned, with a particular focus on mileage to and from work.
The tax recovered was significant, I know one guy who paid 80k back in tax.
