The irish Embassy when abroad help with accident?

    Does anyone know in the case of being abroad if the irish embassy can help acquire medical treatment? For example in the us

    I've read about embassies helping the past for pre arranged operations and for acute accidents.

    Does the irish embassy do this for pre arranged and accidents abroad the same way other embassies do?

    Thats why you buy travel insurance - no embassy gets involved if you end up having to go to hospital

    Embassies only really assist in the event of a death or extremely serious injury and you are still liable for any costs incurred.

    I would caution against going to the United States for any medical treatment unless you plan on selling your home to pay for it....

    What other embassies are you referring to?

    The diplomatic service is not your personal assistant, an insurance company nor a travel agent. If you have an accident abroad and don’t have insurance that is your problem. The embassy might lend you a small amount of pocket money, but most likely they’ll just help you or your family to transfer your own funds abroad to cover the cost.
