    Is go for the merc, it'll cost you a lot more if anything goes tits up.

    Go for the merc, you will always regret not doing it.

    I have E class kompressor auto 04, the slk has updated version of this engine with 184 hp so very nice power to size of car.

    The gearbox is 7 speed, very smooth once it's been serviced.

    I get 55 -60 miles for a tenner with mixed driving, so expect same or slightly better.

    Now, I do all my own work but parts are same as most cars I've owned.

    Just go to local garage if needed.Dont go back to merc on 12yo car

    The merc will probably need a timing chain and tensioner at that mileage and possibly the cam sprockets which will be pricey even if you do it yourself. Still the one to pick though.

    The Hyundai is hideous.

    The SLK might even rise in value if you keep it long enough.

    Yeah I get you but I'm comparing them by price .. if I go for a car a bit better than the i10 it'll be a bit older, I've looked at those options too.
    I'm leaning towards the Merc anyway.

    There’s a bit older and then there’s a 12 year old premium car with a supercharged engine that’s known to be throw up issues, with a hydraulic roof that’s known to throw up issues.

    I’m all for getting something cool, just be realistic about premium car ownership and the extra costs that can go with it and you’ll be fine.

    Very strange choice you are trying to make there,it almost doesn't make sense.
    I was expecting an older Audi or BMW or VW etc but a hyundai a completely different ball game.

    Anyway to answer your question it has to be the merc

    The 1.8 kompressor engines had issues with timing chains and sprockets.

    The roofs are very complicated, there are plenty instances of them giving issues.
    That said you’ll never hear about the ones that work perfectly.
