7 seater petrol/diesel

I'm looking to buy a second hand 7 seater MPV, something between 7 and 10 years old perhaps, and under 10k if I can manage it. I wanted a petrol engine as I do a lot of short journeys but I have noticed that a) there are very few petrol MPVs available from these years and b)the tax on them seems sky high compared to their diesel equivalents. Just wondering can anyone tell me why this is the case? I believe there was less demand for petrol engine MPVs during these years which I assume is why there are so few available second hand. Was this because of the high tax?

Motor tax and VRT from 2008 onwards is based on the car's co2 emissions. Most diesels had lower emissions than equivalent petrol engines bar a few. People bought mostly diesel cars because they were often cheaper than the petrol equivalent. When demand for petrol models dropped in favour of diesel, manufacturers didn't bother offering as many if any petrol models here for a number of years. Petrol has picked up again in the last few years but unfortunately they are not within your budget.
