Can't say I've been calling out for yet another video streaming service.

Finally something to compete with gamepass! Oh wait... No, no it won't. No one wants old Sony Films to watch on their PlayStation. Free is better than nothing but hope it's not Sony thinking this will be a win.

Just wait until they raise the price of Plus after the trial period to give us better value for money instead of giving us the choice.

It must be absolutely exhausting looking for something to complain about in every single news story that comes out.

"Breaking news: Covid vaccine confirmed to vaccinate against all known diseases"

"Yeah, but I could still get hit by a bus. I bet they'll bring out a bus vaccine next week and charge €5 for it"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,189 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

From seeing some buses I've been on, a bus vaccine wouldn't be a bad idea.

Yeah, I'm no Sony Pony or anything and admit they have made some really anti consumer business decisions for a long time, but the constant moaning about anything and everything they do now is bordering on entitled/ungrateful/spoiled. For instance, people complaining about The Last of Us Remake as if someone is going to go into their houses in the middle of the night and steal the original....
HZD became free the other day and notice how that news story didn't gain much attention. Last gen everyone was bashing X Box. Looks like it's Sony's turn on the chopping block.

Has anyone had any problems with the controller. All of my buttons have become "sticky" and are near unusable.

Seems a leak through Sony's Polish site advertised PlayStation Plus Video Pass.

Great advertisement to not bother with it. Venom, the cruddy Zombieland sequel & Bloodshot are some proper two star offerings.

Yes. Same here. Either return it to where you bought it or call Sony.

Mine is mid replacement- call them, and explain what is going on.
They’ll need a few details - username, email, address - but the hardest is the ID from the back of the controller - my eyes nearly bled trying to read that...

Suggest you ring them early in the morning.
I got a label in a few minutes and later dropped it into my local DPD drop off point - rang them first, just down the road from me.

"Returnal Feels Like An Actual PS5 Game" - preview on Kotaku.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,259 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

We just posted our two Returnal gameplay videos.
It's the opening 15 and 45 mins unedited. It's the same 15mins at the start of both so depending on how much time you have you can take your pick.

Nothing beyond that is spoilt but if you want to go in fresh best avoid all of them.

Demon's Souls and Astrobot felt like actual PS5 games to me. It's a pity Cyberpunk is out of the headlines, Kotaku really reaching to generate their clickbait headlines from elsewhere

Clickbait? Get a grip, will ya. :P

"For the first time this year, I felt like I was playing a next-gen game rather than one that straddles that transitory period between console generations."

    Ooooh.... so controversial.

I was going to pick up Demon Soul’s during a sale this summer (assuming it will be discounted), but now I may look to Returnal based on how well it’s being received. Didn’t think much of it but I’m getting an Alien vibe from it which I really like

I've had zero interest in Returnal, but looks like it could end up being worth a punt.

I really, really hope Returnal is as good as those previews suggest. Housemarque have made some incredible games and I’d love to see them succeed on a larger scale.

But even as a fan of theirs 80 quid is a big punt pre-reviews at least, so will wait for those final impressions.

Right, but that isn’t the article title is it? It is 100% click bait and they do it all the time.

    What's clickbaity about the title?

"Returnal Feels Like An Actual PS5 Game" is a clickbait title?

Feels like the complete opposite to me. From that title, I get that they're saying that more than any other PS5 game so far, it feels like a next step in terms of graphics, gameplay and utilisation of PS5 features (SSD, DualSense, 3D audio).

That's my impression of what they're saying with the title, having not read the article. That's not clickbait.

It’s implying that the game’s I mentioned earlier aren’t ‘actual’ PS5 titles. There is frequently something inflammatory and/or elitist about Kotaku’s article titles.

I kinda get that, but Demon's Souls is a remake of an approx. 10 year old game and Astrobot is like a giant tech demo (but isn't big enough to be a full game in itself).

I think their point is that it's a full game, new franchise, post launch release window, exclusive game which takes full advantage of PS5 features. I think whatever about Kotaku in general, I really don't see anything wrong with their title for this article.

You're reading far too much into it, imo.

Initial impressions are good. It looks and plays really well, the sound design is amazing. You can hear individual raindrops hitting the ground if you have the PS5 headset.

The gameplay loop of dying and returning is interesting, I am enjoying it, for now, but that might not be the case after 100 restarts. What is good is that dying is not just "the game is hard so we kill you a lot" but dying is part of the narrative. You kinda have to die to gain more understanding of what is happening which is pretty cool.

It has lots of great ideas so I do hope it has a trick up its sleeve to prevent the restarting from becoming annoying.

Outer Wilds had that restart loop but it was tied to a timer I think.

Also the sound thing isn't just available on Sony headsets it's available on them all.

I'd be surprised if the loop mechanic worked half as well as Outer Wilds but i remember hearing about that and writing it off before playing it like how could that ever be fun. Turned out to be one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had in gaming so will see how this handles it. Can't get hyped for it though, will wait for reviews

Sorry if already posted but is anyone else on PS5 suffering with really bad speed up lag since the update a few days ago?

I've had virtually no issues up until now, but every game mode in FIFA has become unplayable with the constant lag and then speed up.

I'm also having issues with Spotify and other apps dropping out with what seems to be connection issues even though every other device is perfect and the connection is great.

From searching online it seems to be a relatively common issue but yet with no real solutions as of yet?

I've tried wired, unwired, resetting everything, deleting my WiFi connection and doing that again, all with no luck.

I'm at my wits end with it now :(

Regarding Returnal, I watched the first impressions video from SkillUp. The concept of death being a gameplay feature in itself and the metroidvania elements sound interesting but there are two nagging things that's personally hard to ignore.

Firstly, I can't play horror games. I could never finish the Resident Evil games and I could barely play Last of Us Part II after 10pm and that's not even horror... This seems too much like Alien. The scenes in the protagonist's house look creepy AF.

Additionally, the fact that you can't quit the game without being sent back to the beginning is ****ing stupid. They could at least put a limit on quitting if they're worried about players potentially abusing it to cheat death. For instance, they could allow one quit per level or better yet make it so you can't quit during combat encounters. Heaven forbid you want to play something else. That's where the quick resume feature of the series X could have helped. Oh well.

Speaking of combat, it looks a bit like Death Stranding at times...

Finally remembered to download Horizon earlier. Just got Vodafone 500Mb installed today. PS5 was downloading at 400Mb (50MB/s) on 2.4GHz WiFi. Don't miss 10MB/s speeds from the PS4 Pro when wired. The full download speeds on PlayStation Network are a huge quality of life improvement. No need to hoard games I won't play because the downloads and updates took forever.
