    Hi,

Asking on behalf of a friend who has applied for a job and they have requested 2 character reference from people in authoritative roles.

This is separate to previous work references etc.

The only person he could think of that know him and give him one was his GP.

However he is stuck with a second one. He has been out of education for 10 years now so teacher/lecturer not an option and doesn't know any Garda/Solicitor.

Any other suggestions that could help him?

Red flag for me (the employer, not your friend).

Have they defined what "authoritative roles" means?

    OK, fair.

    Accountant?

Is there anyone in his extended family who meets the requirements?

Friend is a muslim so has never stepped inside a church.

Doesn't know any local businessman unfortunately.

Doesn't really know the local postman or any solicitor or accountant.

I thought the whole purpose of it would be to get it from someone who has known you for a while for it to be accurate.

    So a Muslim cleric then.

    Sports coach. Landlord. Banker. Lawyer.
