Some people like a ghost story for Christmas, how about a little murder?

Hercule Poirot's Christmas starring David Suchet, aired on Christmas Day 1994.

    * And yes, this was set at Christmas. Murder doesn't stop for Christmas!

I imagine anything called a Christmas special would go. But, as I said in another thread, I could never understand setting a Christmas special during another time of year. I remember a Downton Abbey special was set in the summer, and viewers were outraged!

It's almost up there with Christmas adverts not having anything to do with Christmas!!

Not sure if the Box of Delights would count... it was a chrismas special but a mini series.
There were 6 episodes with the finale airing christmas eve - as the plot reached its climax at midnight mass.

The early Only Fools and Horses Christmas episodes.
Celebrity Juice put on a few Christmas editions.
    The Late Late Toy Show.
    It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

    Bottom Christmas special.

Also like to add that I love Christmas cookery specials, do they count?

Which year though? Surely each has to stand by itself? Or do we lump 40 odd years of them in as one entry?

If thats the case, Only Fools & Horses, the Simpsons, Gavin & Stacey etc will be classified as one entry & not individual ones.

May need some MOD clarification on this one.

    Good point.

Late Late Toy Show, Jools Hootenanny are annual christmas 'events' but I couldn't vote for them in the context of this thread... like would anyone ever go back and re-watch one? Whereas the other faves are ones people re-watch again and again over the years.

Yeah, we definitely need specific years! :)
'Royle Family Christmas special' for example, could refer to about 6 episodes!

Late Late Toy Show 2020 has to be the most special of the lot. Other years may have been more entertaining, but 2020 was about the magic of children and Christmas, despite tough times.

Edit: for clarity, even though it has no connection to Absolutely Fabulous, I'm nominating this specific episode. Think of it as a hug for you ;)

Think it was the 2018 LLTS that was also one of the stand out ones (the one with the kids ripping the wrapper paper off a box with their dad inside who they though was away with the Army) that one brought a little tear to my eye.

Nice one, have a couple more to add so...

The classic, A charlie Brown christmas has to be included, love this. Hadn't watched it in a few years & did so again in the run up to Christmas 2020 and was delighted to see it still held up superbly.

Family Guy – A Very Special Family Guy Freakin’ Christmas. Am a big Family guy fan so had to have this one in here.

South Park – Mr Hankey, The Christmas Poo, slightly crude, but I found this episode hilarious as the town of SP tries to ban christmas completely in an attempt to reach max political correctness, myself & the kids still sing the title song every now & again over christmas just to wind my wife up who absolutely abhors South Park :D

Futurama - The Christmas Story, another animated special, but I loved this show, way funnier than the Simpsons but terribly underrated for some reason, the first christmas episode about Fry's first christmas in the future was brilliantly done, a great mix of comedy & drama & deserves a nomination.

The hang-glider, chandelier, and grandad's death are probably my 3 favourite non-special episodes. Some absolute classics there.

Edit: oh, and the one the Peckham Pouncer. :D

Funnily enough I generally preferred the ones with uncle Albert rather than grandad... the one where him and Del were pretending to be shocked at Rodney bringing a girl to the cinema is tv gold... you can see David Jason struggling not to burst out laughing.
