No need to be pedantic, any SI’s in place now will be replaced/extended etc and nothing will change for you and I on May 4! We can both agree on that!

And yes I’m familiar with the law! 3 years studying it for a bachelors will do that!

    It's not pedantic, it's fact.

If there is a date on an SI, it expires on that date... and are referenced to in new SI's if one is to be generated...

If you studied law, you should know this

This is a weak attempt at a gotcha. Every sector that's been shut down needs a boost, that goes without saying. At the same time why should we be the ones who have to do said boosting? Especially considering the high cost. We didn't force them to close for a year, the government did. Holidays will be way more expensive this year due to COVID, not due to anything we've done.

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

northern ireland announcing easing of restrictions today and seems they are leaning towards an accelaration of opening with such a high amount of vaccination and low case numbers....if hotels, pubs and restaurants are fully open up north over the summer that will surely put the pressure on the government here...outdoor dining is just not going to cut it even if its only for june...valuable time being wasted for the hospitality sector

The primary reason we're in this situation is because of subservient and hysterical fools who've been so willing to trade away our freedoms on the promise of safety.
You don't have a huge issue with your constitutional rights and freedoms being removed for months on end?

Jesus, it really is worrying what most people have been reduced to.

What are you doing about it yourself?

Again you’ve gone way off point! You say they expire on May 4 (I havnt bothered checking but I agree with you as I’ve seen this date mentioned before). The initial question was do you believe anything will be different between May 4 and 5 in this country with regards to the restrictions currently in place?

As a 20 year old college student who has spent his entire first year of university online, I am sickened by some of the discourse around young people in the media with regards to Covid-19. With golf courses, gyms, football pitches, cinemas, pubs, clubs and everything we could hope to enjoy closed, we have no outlet and seemingly no voice. What everyone seems to forget is that your college years are supposed to be about meeting new people and living your life, not living at home with your parents. I’m well aware everyone is struggling, but with kids back in school, and on the way back to playing sport, and most other people at work socialising with people to some extent, it seems we are the only group left with no outlet, while at the same time being demonised for the actions of a tiny proportion of idiots who are in college accommodation. And nobody seems interested in our point of view, it’s upsetting.

I’d imagine it’s all flights into Dublin from Shannon and Knock airport.

It’s important to remember Irish Covid is the most deadly of all covids across the globe

I did suspect a rather large element of 'imagination'.

You're expecting MHQ to be applied to every single country in the world rather than the high risk ones? Why?

I don't think the regime really care about the importance of social interaction in your development. The way things are going here the gov will be assigning approved sexual partners soon.

A disturbing development in Irish media recently is the motivation to turn groups of the population against each other.

That's not off point from what you mentioned, if you don't like being corrected on something you supposedly studied, well that's a different matter.

"The Regulations remain in operation until 04 May 2021" is what is on page 34 of 35 in SI 168.

Will it be replaced by another SI, more than likely. Will the restrictions be the exact same, I doubt it, the government will need some sort of disaster to keep the types of restrictions currently in place.

With the UK opening up further the following week, and successful vaccine programs in the UK and some of Europe....
The EU travel arrangements should be in by then also, so when the EU is considered "good" to travel, a lot of things in SI 168 are overruled by numerous EU laws...

as I mentioned previously, SI's are a good way to leave you open for a legal anal blasting if you have no good reason for it.

You must not have been around for the 2009 (to date) Public v Private Sector battle they whipped up so.

Hardly a new development with the media.

There’s shades of that movie “the purge” about it.

You're right, but I think they'd be widely supported, even more so than the draconian restrictions people are living under now.

And CNN are already preparing to push fear regarding climate change: https://nypost.com/2021/04/13/cnns-charlie-chester-says-network-peddled-anti-trump-propaganda/

“I think there’s a COVID fatigue. So, like whenever a new story comes up, they’re [CNN’s] going to latch onto it. They’ve already announced in our office that once the public is — will be open to it — we’re going to start focusing mainly on climate,” Chester said.

“It’s going to be our [CNN’s] focus. Like our focus was to get Trump out of office, right? Without saying it, that’s what it was, right? So our next thing is going to be climate change awareness,” he added.

”What’s that look like?” Chester was asked.

“I don’t know. I’m not sure. I have a feeling that it’s going to be like, constantly showing videos of decline in ice, and weather warming up, and like the effects it’s having on the economy,” Chester said.

Asked who makes that decision, he said the “head of the network,” referring to Jeff Zucker.

“I imagine that he’s got his council and they’ve all like, discussed, like where they think,” he said, trailing off.

He then said the new focus would be on a ”pandemic-like story that we’ll beat to death, but that one’s got longevity.”

“Like there’s a definitive ending to the pandemic. It’ll taper off to a point that it’s not a problem anymore. Climate change can take years, so they’ll [CNN will] probably be able to milk that quite a bit,” he said.

But the above will soon be forgotten and ignored by the media and politicians.

Yeah. I’m getting ready to see all the science they’ll be throwing at us to justify climate lockdown. You know the science that consists of polar bears slipping off the ice into the water.
It’s all real cause and effect stuff (i.e 2020 science all over again)

Exactly my point, thank you. I compare our plight to that of someone who is learning to drive. It's easy to ridicule and minimise the importance of that process, and once you've passed you move on with your life and never really think about it again. Most older people choose to forget that their most formative years were probably 18-23, where they met their partners, lived life to the fullest and found themselves. It's easy to ridicule the value of that process when you're older and maybe wiser, but you can't ignore its inherent value. I went into lockdown at 18, Im 20 now, and will likely still not be able to attend a nightclub until I'm 21 at the current rate. Everyone was crying out for kids to get back to school, for their development, but then its easier to empathise with little kids then with near fully formed adults.

Nice to see some good news

Easing restrictions in May 'on track', says Tánaiste

A return to Level 3 restrictions in May would be a step in the right direction.

    I'm sure many will be interested to see if this includes;

Restaurants and cafes (including bars or pubs serving food or wet pubs) may remain open for take-away and delivery and outdoor dining or service to an absolute maximum of 15 people.

    Right on cue by Leo.
I suppose he has to echo some news since the north is making an actual announcement today with real dates attached

    Includes actual dates (remember them!)

Close contact services, hairdressers and beauty salons, reopen.
    Outdoors visitors attractions reopen.
Driving lessons resume, as do theory and practical driving tests.
Outdoor competitive sport will be allowed with numbers not exceeding 100. No spectators allowed.
Equine assisted learning and therapy can take place outdoors, limited to 10 people.

    30 April

All remaining non-essential retail to reopen.
Self-contained tourist accommodation, such as caravans and rented holiday homes, can operate.

    10 May

Licensed and unlicensed premises can serve customers in outdoors settings in groups of six from no more than two householders.
Removal of curfews on takeaways and off-licences.
    Reopening of gyms.

    14 May

Wedding receptions and post-burial events can take place in indoor hospitality venues, limited to 30 people.
Limit on outdoor gatherings in domestic gardens increased to 15 people from no more than three households.

    Not before 1 June

Licensed and unlicensed premises can operate indoors.
    Hotels reopen.
Domestic mixing allowed in indoor settings.
    Indoors visitor attractions reopen.
Return of indoor group exercise, with numbers limited to suit the size of venue.
    ———————————————————-

Already have a golf outing arranged myself for next month.
    Brilliant to see this.
I hope it causes a terrible headache for pro-lockdown fans and the government

Nice contrast to Varadkar this morning

Services such as hairdressers and barbers will reopen in May, but most likely later than May 4th, he added.

We're likely to a month behind for hairdressers alone

I don't think they'll be any outdoor dining in May either

Their vaccination program is significantly ahead of ours as I'm sure you're aware.

That doesn't really detract from what most would consider positive news.
