    Hi everyone, asking for a little advice as I'm absolutely ignorant about motors! We have an old (2007) second hand ford focus, that we only use for transport to work (5km) and reaching nearby destinations. I'd really rather not having to buy a new one, but our car has yet failed to pass the NCT this year, and wondering if it's worth spend the money to fix it. We never had to put much money in it, beside having to change the battery too often and last year fixing the axle and couple other things through the years.

    The reasons for not passing are:

    MAJOR
    Registration plate lamps
    Rear view mirror (broken on a corner)
    Fuel system (vacuum pipe leaking)
    Steering linkage, steering rack gaiter, insecure

    ADVISORY
    tyre condition and tyre tread worn and older than 6 years (one tyre)

    Are these major faults? Do you reckon would be expensive to fix?

    Thanks in advance to whoever will have some spare time to help me out understanding the state of the car!

    No, these are all minor issues. The hose can be replaced, and the rack secured at any local mechanics. The bulbs can be done yourself just like the mirror. Id say incl tyres your looking at less than €500

    500 for that??:confused::confused:

    1 tyre €60-70.
    bulbs €2
    mirror €10
    the gaiter only seems loose so cheap to fix.
    New hose shouldnt be costly either.

    The tyre is advisory so you don't even need to replace it to pass the nct.

    To top all that, the tyre is only ADVISORY so does not need to be replaced to pass the re-test. Obviously it is a good idea to replace it but not strictly necessary for the test.
