Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Kindle book deals

Apologies if this has been done before. I follow quite closely the Kindle UK monthly book deals and always try to pick up a few good books for 99p each month, which involves a fair bit of trawling around the Amazon website. In case anyone is interested, this month, I will be buying the following books which are currently reduced to 99p:

The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris

Sins of the Fathers by James Mack

    The Testament by John Grisham

Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf by Ben Hogan

Troubled: The Failed Promise of America’s Behavioral Treatment Programs by Kenneth Rosen

    Born Fighter by Ruqsana Begum

The Russian Affair by David Walsh

Any other input very welcome. If contributing, might I suggest that people refrain from commenting on other people’s suggestions, we all have different tastes in books and each to their own. I also suggest that only books that are 99p are included - you often see books on the Kindle website reduced from, say, £17.99 to £8.99 but I don’t consider that a BA as you can usually pick up a paperback for less than that.

Good idea for a bargain alert, some great deals to be had. Some really good books for 99p on occasion.

Richard Dawkins God Delusion on today for 99p. Not necessarily a recommendation but a very good price.

3 methods I use to get kindle books for cheap:
If you haven't done so, I would suggest also signing up for the Kindle Daily Deal newsletter. Every day I get an email with 3 or more books for 99p.
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kindle-Daily-Deals/b?node=5400977031
I scan the email quickly every day and buy the book if it's one I want, then delete the email.
I track specific books I am interested in on https://www.ereaderiq.com/track/drops/
Here you can enter the book you want and the desired price (I put in £2), and you'll get an email when it reaches that price. You need to be quick on this one when you get the email as the price drop will most likely be temporary.
Lastly I also look through the monthly deals books as mentioned above. However there's an awful lot of crap to wade through and I haven't had that much success with finding good stuff.

Good idea for a thread! I checked my Amazon wishlist because of this thread, this book has been on it for a few years after it was recommended on a podcast:

Perdido Street Station by China Miéville - 99p

Are free books allowed? There's often free Kindle books posted to HUKD but they tend to be hit and miss in quality. Rather than clutter the thread with endless freebies, how about only ones you've read / can recommend?

1984 & Animal Farm by George Orwell - Free

I found this the best overall for price deals. Has mainly £0.99 ones, but also a few other greatly reduced ones. I just check it most days :

I have a wish list saved on my Amazon account. I check it maybe once a week for price changes. Every couple of months Amazon email with a discount off certain books or one particular author on my wish list.

Thanks very much to everyone who responded - some really great suggestions here. If anyone comes across any more good 99p books on UK Kindle, please let us know.

My last one for the day - Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly, 99p. I liked the film so hopefully the book is good.

    Happy Easter everyone.

I’d often follow the monthly kindle deals too, although I noticed this month that the number of low priced deals seem to have dropped a lot, I don’t know why that is?

I enjoyed The Martian and can recommend if you like sci-fi / space. I've not read Artemis.

I’m trying to buy this, but it’s only showing the Hardcopy available. When I click into versions I can see the Kindle version for £0.99 and I’ve even got a sample sent to my kindle . Is it this happening to anyone else ?

You can’t buy books in the app. You have to be on the main website

Thanks a lot. Would have wrecked my head trying to figure that one out.

The best way to save money on Kindle books is to head over to the indian Amazon store and purchase them there. There are services online for creating a fictitious Indian address. The site works with non-Indian credit cards and MFA phone numbers.

Approx 90 rupees to a euro right now. What may be a significant sum of money to someone in that part of the world may only be a price of a cup of coffee to us.

Hey, it’s a global market!! If banks etc can take advantage of fluctuations in exchange rates and vastly different local prices, why can’t the consumer?

As for getting the book to play nice on your IE/UK reg’d Kindle, you’ll need to research that for yourself!!!

a deep dive into the world of conspiracy theorists. I've enjoyed some of Ronson's other books, he tackles weighty subjects in a very readable way.

Thanks for that...actually had dismissed it on the daily email today :-)

There is a 2nd trilogy - the McGarry Stateside trilogy, and follows on from the Dublin trilogy. He has a new book tied into that trilogy due in June I think.

Very similar to Bateman in style and humour....I'm guess you've already read a few of those as well

He has a bunch of series (Mystery Man, Dan Starkey) but they pretty much work as standalone stories as well tbh.

The standard is very high and consistent imho...can't remember ever been disappointed by one of his books...enjoy!

For any Bateman fans, if you haven't done so already you should check out Chris Brookmyre, particularly his earlier books. Similar sort of style, crime thrillers with a humorous twist, all very well written and hugely enjoyable. Carl Hiaasen is probably their American equivalent, and is also excellent and worth a read. There are quite often deals on both.
