At no point in this "Emergency" has NPHET been required to explain, justify or defend ANY of it's "advice" to Cabinet.

This is complete and utter lies by the way. The Chair of NPHET writes to the Minister any time they make reccomendations. They are then asked to present their data and reasonings to Cabinet.

NPHET get the blame for everything by some here who continue to deflect from the gross negligence from the politicians. I think Ronan Glynn is right to defend that and he has offered a better defence than any of the conspiracy theorists here.

It’s amazing but 12 months ago I’d have replied something horrible to you for your feelings on this country.
Now ? I feel the same.

There’s not as much as one redeeming feature I can point to in this country worth positively recognising anymore.

It’ feels like everything of worth has been obliterated and there’s not a shred of hope for the future here.

We have effectively turned into a communist state now.

    (1) the government fund the economy and its inhabitants

    (2) we have our personal behaviour mandated (masks)

    (3) our ability to leave the country is limited to acceptance of what can only be described as criminally extortionate (€1900 mhq , €2000 for daring to leave vaccinated or not)

    (4) all basic indoor and outdoor leisure facilities gates locked (even though it violates the known science behind outdoor transmission)

    (5) protesting all but banned by using underhand propaganda media tactics not seen since WW2 to whip the public to submission.

    (6) families and friends (your basic network of human support) forcibly detached from you under threat of shaming on national media or in extreme cases fined or arrested.

    I’m sure there’s more examples

And all this for a virus with a fatality rate of 0.3%.

You’d really have to be all but brain dead not to be asking some serious questions at this point as to what the endgame and real motives that are behind this entire narrative.

And still people will justify the lockdown and defend it to the death.

Mind you,it does take some hard neck to put stuff like this in a "Scientific" report :D

    :D:D:D

Keep them damn shops CLOSED...d'ye hear me ?........CLOSED

Perfectly timed report and yet another example of the the test and trace team taking mind reading and guesswork as "science".

NPHET didn't close businesses, the virus did.
We were practically at Zero Covid last summer and half the country was shut

    https://twitter.com/gabysayshey/status/1380225565391777797

    That’s very interesting.

Thats Ronan & NPHET realising they will be blamed for the economic catastrophe facing Ireland over the next few years

My advice to Ronan & NPHET is to immediately disappear into the background and hope people forget

Didn’t see this before I commented.

It’s exactly what it is, perhaps Ronan got some valuable advice from someone in the know.

Either way, it’s a smart move if a little to late

Very easy to never have to recommend closing anything ever again when everything is still locked down. I remember his predecessor making claims along those lines last year as well. Turned out to be a big steaming pile as well. Glynn can defend NPHET all he wants and the spineless government deserve the majority of the flack. However, to sit there and claim "me know nothing" isn't going to cut the mustard.

They've recommend measures that have zero basis in science and continue to stick with a smorgasbord of daft rules and recommendations that make zero sense.

Literally everything in that post is being implemented in most countries in one form or another. Maybe the whole world has turned communist without us even realising it

It'll be interesting to see who they blame for the surge in cancer, heart disease, mental health related deaths not to mention the massive numbers now on waiting lists over the coming years...this health crisis has caused an even greater health crisis!!

I was in Spain for 3 weeks in January- lockdown doesn’t mean the same everywhere and in most countries people still have some semblance of normality. Here you have to book an appointment to buy shoes for your kids.
If thinking everywhere is the same helps get you through good for you, I don’t see it that way though.

I for one, have no problem blaming NPHET 33%, the government 33%, and the media 33% for how this last year has played out. They are all equally responsible for the hardship and suffering that's coming to Ireland in the near future.

    Exactly this.

Is it any wonder the same politicians get voted back in? The Irish public are fools of the highest order and the generalisation around the world that Irish people are thick has been well and truly been deemed true as a result of so many idiots and me feiners who think they look at a couple of numbers and know everything.

Madrid municipal area is pretty much restriction free during office hours..

    That is currently

As Glynn said right there, they are responsible for public health. I think allowing waiting lists to double over 12 months and cancelling thousands of procedures while simultaneously locking down the country for prolonged periods is a complete and abject failure.

No blame for the people of ireland who broke restrictions, didn't social distance, visited half the country, went to house parties etc no?

You put one third of the blame on the government and one third on an advisory group with literally zero power in making the decisions.

Absolutely laughable. You have been completely gaslit by this government and it’s actually really sad to watch people fall for it.

Just to reply to your post, but this isn't the right thread to discuss it.

You could be right, or it could be that they do nothing. The elephant in the room being Peru, Spain, France, Italy, the Philippines the US et al having the highest case and death numbers in the world while also having the strictest mask policies in the world. And mask free Sweden and Norway doing a lot better in comparison.

But let's agree to disagree and move on.

Well not to discuss masks. But I'll stop you there.

Peru, Spain, France, Italy, the Philippines ... do not have the highest case and death numbers in the world at present.

Here's today's screenshot from the worldometer website sorted for Total cases per 1 million population by country

    https://i.imgflip.com/54wa3a.jpg

USA alone from your list comes in at no. 8 for cases per 1 million population

Here's a screenshot sorted for Total deaths 1 per million population by country

    https://i.imgflip.com/54w9wt.jpg.

    So no not even close.

I don't blame nphet for everything, I blame them for some things and feel that certain members should be in prison for past actions but I've always felt the gov are to blame for pawning off decision making to them and giving them an inflated away over decision making and public opinion
