I thought when I cut the roots of this it would dry out and be easy to remove but its stubborn. Any suggestions.

I took a paint scraper to it and later in the year used a powerwasher on the remnants of some ivy on my walls. The fan-like shape is still faintly there, but only slightly noticeable. You could also try using an anti-algae wash or herbicide but I don't know if that'll make much difference because the stuff on the wall is dead anyway I believe.

Mainly, it needs to dry out and flake off afaik but you can just help it along the way. Will never have ivy again, absolutely PITA to remove the roots and these wall remnants.
