It's gand for the retired teacher saying that now, as she is probably already vacinated and no fear of her!

It says it all really when someone makes such a vast generalization about 1,00s. Well done caller.

I suppose you blame the teachers too for your son being too lazy by not accepting the course he was offered in Trinity!!

    Back to the 'Journo' Student

Irish rail ticket from Dublin to Waterford is 10.99 euro, that's 22 euro return for a student fare, not the 63 euro he stated.

Nonsense that was a great show, lots of topics. Not much mucking about listening to Joe going off topic to goad some oul wan into telling us how sad they were about someone they knew that had died.

I cannot believe that the ex teacher was put on at that time with no possibility of right of reply,
I’d have enjoyed listening to her being challenged

with any luck we will have some teacher Vs retired teacher action tomorrow.

It was the older teachers who agreed pay deals not so long ago that meant they kept their own levels of pay, while any new entrants to the teaching profession started at much lower rates.

No sympathy for any of them

    Unemployment.

The one person I knew who worked in the prison service did so because at the time they simply could not find any other work at that pay level. It was needs-driven. They hated it, and left within a couple of years. They weren’t a prison guard, but said the abuse and intimidation from prisoners and their fambillies alike was appalling.

    Jan from earlier today...

    https://extra.ie/2021/04/06/news/irish-news/woman-living-in-fear-prison-guard-home-gardai

She is entirely right that the state should financially support anybody who has been under criminal threat in the likes of case of her situation where she is totally unconnected with any criminal activity. Once the guards have had to advise somebody to increase their security in such a situation, they should not be at the expense for it, and that would include 24 hour monitoring.

Totally agreed. The state has an obligation to protect people from dangers to their lives, which dangers are not of their making. Why are all these Hutches getting 24 hour surveillance courtesy of you and I, and innocent parties are left to fend for themselves?

Even John Bruton has 24 hour surveillance; it seems there is no expiry on their protection after leaving office. Varadkar, who is only in his early 40s, will have Garda protection for the rest of his life, but thetes nothing at all in the kitty for an ordinary, innocent member of the public? Hmm, no. This is a republic.

150,000EUR settlement between rte and O Laoghaire yesterday over comments made on liveline. Would joe even care about this? He's made a few comments about having to go to the High Court.

And guess who ultimately pays for this?

Duffy was the one who made these comments. He (rather than RTÉ, and by extension you and me) should be paying this. He might be a little more careful in his choice of language if he had to pay for his own comments.

I don't know whether the Shinners are particularly litigious or whether RTE has a gripe with them, but how many actions have been settled against RTE by that party by now? Their current and former party leader have settled claims against RTE, or had apologies issued, and this is only the latest example. Something is really off kilter. Not aware of similar missteps against any other party/ technical group.

Maybe other parties are less likely to pursue legal recourse, I don't know. Very curious.

If a student can afford to fly to the Indy 500 he’s not on his uppers and pinned to his collar as Joe says

He bought the low fare ticket from Irish Rail

Irish rail have semi flexible and flexible tickets and it’s a long while since I booked I believe they were only a euro or two more

    Ridiculous whinging

It's been going on for decades RTE v SF. The only way SF can stop RTE badmouthing them is by taking legal action, which they do.

That is quite some payout from the public purse. I'm sure that funding money is very welcome indeed.

We aren't allowed to repeat a defamation, because that itself is a defamation, but does anyone remember what date the broadcast relates to? Curious to see whether it's still online (hardly), or even what the forum comments were like.

Some people were commenting earlier in the week that Duffy sounded grumpy. Perhaps now we know why.
