I'm absolutely not against the vaccine and have no issue with Leo but by christ I hope that was just worded badly , 'freedoms will be granted' is possibly the worst way to put this. I hope the vaccine rollout continues full steam ahead, there will always be some who won't get it but the idea of a 2 tier society for those who have and have not been vaccinated (due to time etc.. no fault of their own) is a disgrace.

What type of surveillance system needs to be created for such a plan to actually work?

This government are too retarded and slow to implement a vaccine passport thank god.

"Leo Varadkar has confirmed the Government is developing a “digital green certificate vaccine pass” for people to prove they have been fully inoculated" Yeah this is definitely going down the vaccine passport rabbithole. Not a good move.

The examiner are quoting from this:

    https://twitter.com/LeoVaradkar/status/1379060977518395399?s=19

I posted this on the other thread but reposting here seeing as its linked to lifting restrictions

I know not everyone is Leo's fan but I thought this was very good (and positive)

    Key take aways:
He very clearly states vaccines result in vaccination, that evidence from Israel indicates we may not need to be as concerned about variants as we have been given vaccines appear to offer protection there too and he is much firmer on dates for bringing back non essential retail (may) and hotels (june)

I feel like this is the speech LV would have given last week if hed been in charge , instead of that simpering ****wit MM who talks to us like we are children or maybe not very bright simpletons that cant be trusted with even the tiniest bit of information or to behave in any way like responsible people.

Clearly FG are in damage control mode too now but my God I wish it was last year and they were in charge

I think having unvaccinated people not being allowed to do certain things that vaccinated people can do will build up a lot of resentment. Considering it will especially affect young people who - through no fault of their own - will probably be waiting quite a while to be fully vaccinated under this country's rollout.

I'd hope that these vaccines offer a little more than a few months immunity

All the good data I’ve seen so far has suggested that immunity to SARS-CoV-2, whether conferred by prior infection or vaccination, is fairly long. IGg antibodies have been detected in previously infected individuals about a year after infection, and T-cell and B-cell memory (suggesting long-term immunity) of the virus has been observed.

I don’t know why we’re vaccinating recovered people, though. No vaccine in history has conferred stronger immunity than natural recovery from a given viral disease.

And certain groups of people doing things which cause other people to die - well, that causes resentment too.

Though I'll concede that lounging around at home, drinking beer and watching netflix for a couple extra months, is a far, far worse fate than catching a disease and dying because your neighbour figured that maths and science just don't apply to him/her.

    More of this stuff

Are you ok to spread a different respiratory illness when the Covid restrictions lift and kill a few?

Will that be ok once vulnerable don’t die of Covid?

Or do we spend the rest of our lives drinking beer at home?

    So
Sam predict's 100,000 deaths if we do nothing!
Instead of doing nothing we imposed restrictions designed to reduce transmission.
    We didn't have 100,000 deaths

From that you deduce he was wrong?

So do you think we'd have had 100k deaths without lockdown, anything to back that up?

Funny to see people praising Leo for a couple of comments he knows he can say but doesn't need to actually do anything to help implement. The never ending cycle of people lapping up slightly better words than a worse person, and that being enough to be 'kinged' always amuses me.

Sitting at home for a few extra months, avoiding getting within transmissible distance of anybody, and telling your mates to do the same - well, yes, it's a grim fate.

Though is it more awful than accidentally transmitting a fatal disease to somebody close by and essentially killing them by drowning?

Nope to me, but - looking at some of the anti-science and anti-maths (is this a new kind of anti-vaxx?) - I'm beginning to wonder if I'm in a minority on that.

    Yes, basic maths and science.

That’s like saying you believe in Jesus Christ because it was written in the bible.

    You can.

I intended to get vaccinated at the earliest opportunity in the knowledge it's the fastest route out of this for all of us.

Doesn't work like that if you actually understand the maths and science.

If you don't understand maths or science, then yes, I suppose baby Jesus looks as magical as basic maths and science.

Was completely thrilled myself to see that PM Johnson said that he was in touch with President Virus and that the two of them had agreed that President Virus was going to tell all the little viruses to stand down all around the country so that the country could "reopen" and that the little viruses would agree not to kill any more people.

    What a splendid leader!

I'm not "lapping it up" and I agree the bar is extremely low given we have the weakest, stupidest one of the lot in charge who speaks to the electorate like a teacher telling a class of bold junior infants that they are getting extra homework for talking.

but it was a relief to hear someone communicate clearly , truthfully and with data, for someone in government to finally admit (what everyone with half a brain knew) that vaccines do result in vaccination and "dE vArIaNtS" dont mean we have to hide under our beds for eternity like MM was clearly planning.

My hope is the tide is turning on MM being ousted finally.

Or this is another example of MM making a statement only to be immediately undermined by Leo saying something different. Both are possible.

But the OP stated we would cause deaths

Are you never going to consider that you may transmit influenza or some other transmissible illness and be a direct cause of a death somewhere?

Or are we still of the opinion only Covid is a tragic death?

You mean simply living their lives... which they have put on hold for the past 13 months?

Yes, I've always hoped for a global pandemic, it was the only way I could conceive of a FF change in leadership. At last.

Yes, because some people feel a responsibility to avoid doing things which might lead to the deaths of other people.

Though I concede entirely that loads of people don't feel any such responsibility - so what if you do something which leads to somebody else's death? It's somebody else and they have to die of something anyway.

It's the prerogative of the spoiled, the arrogant and the socially autistic.

No that's the point - its the very opposite of the bible. Its called mathematical modeling. In this case it was presented as a worse case scenario and not a prediction of the future. Incredible the number who don't seem to understand that.

Heres another amazing piece of mathematics magic where we can all wonder how such things happen ...

    It called the magic penny
