Headline on one of the papers this morning:

“Loaded gun thief knew he had Covid”.

No,no he didn’t have a loaded gun while robbing the shop, the loaded gun was him having Covid. And some people still try to tell us there is no hysteria happening!

    Actually here it is https://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/crime/chef-who-like-loaded-gun-23851042

You have quotation marks around a sentence that wasn't written in that article. The actual headline was "Chef who was like a 'loaded gun' and 'went shoplifting knowing he had Covid-19' jailed for four months". Completely different, but clearly you've your own agenda.

The headline I saw this morning in the petrol station on the actual paper is the one I quoted. Sorry but no “gotcha” moment for you.

Hundreds of thousands of children killed by lockdown measures?
I must have missed that one. Care to elaborate?
What were they killed by? Boredom?

It’s the second this thread that I’ve linked to this information about hundreds of thousands of children dying from the effects of Covid lockdowns and restrictions, and it is incredibly telling that, aside from this sociopathically glib take on such a heartbreaking situation, it’s radio silence.

No because the quickist way out and a return to normal social and economic activity for everyone is vaccination.

Low bar these days..but at least we havn't seen much violence against citizens by law enforcement here during the pandemic.

Yeah... no. If you are asked by your employer to do this to people for the crime of sitting in a park and you do not immediately quit your job, you have absolutely none of my respect. You are jackboot scum and need a history lesson.

Good article in the Financial Times today that I hope someone in the Irish Government reads, noting that it is "too late" to impose lockdowns again in Europe. An initial lockdown (that actually secured our borders and stopped thousands of infected people from getting in) would have worked, but we failed to do that. So hammering us with ineffective lockdowns now does more harm than good.

The German and French governments realise that it is impossible to lock down the country anyway, too many people can and will breach it. People are "going crazy" so they will not stay at home any longer (for those who have been doing so).

"lockdowns are not a solution anymore". So, looking forward to more lockdowns from this Irish government.

They should focus on safe behaviour.

They should focus on safe behaviour.

They should have done this from the start, as per pandemic planning developed over decades with the help of experts from all areas of medicine and human behaviour. Instead, they tossed it all out as soon as they realised they could “get away with” (in the words of UK ‘expert’ Neil Ferguson) importing draconian measures from China.

Focus on risks and behavioural changes along with advice about weight loss and activity would have been more effective and less damaging, IMO. Of course, we can’t know that yet and we likely won’t have any accurate assessment of the whole thing until the current tranche of politicians and the experts who have been responsible for the management of the situation are well into retirement.

1.7 trillion disposable masks floating around in our oceans and environments since the pandemic began . Just another wonderful side effect of this all

We have their dose of hysteria with this website

    https://www.bignewsnetwork.com/news/268417053/masks-distancing-may-continue-after-pandemic-say-uk-experts

Masks, distancing may continue after pandemic say UK experts

Theres only one way to defeat these freaks

Once the over 60’s are vaccinated in June there needs to be a “hugging challenge” with no masks (akin to the level of the ice bucket challenge)

They can shove their masks and social distancing BS where the sun don’t shine.

Right. After the pandemic. Meaning it is effectively no more. Any establishment continuing practice of enforcing masks/social distancing at that stage will lose my custom permanently. And the "experts" can retreat back to the quiet margins of academia, instead of whoring themselves to the media for a quick buck.

Oh right. And how do we do that exactly? If herd immunity is estimated to be between about 70-85%, how do we get there without the under 18s?

Oh, so your logic is that you are sick of restrictions and want to have nice Christmas this year, and so to speed up the herd immunisation process you want those for whom covid means a sniffle or two to take a vaccine?

Well good luck with convincing them that your Christmas time should matter to them and that they should take the vaccine they don’t need themselves.

Sad state of affairs for society when riot police are set on the public who are sitting outside in the fresh air enjoying the nice weather.

A city councillor in Cork called for the army to be deployed to break up crowds in parks etc. Scary stuff where elements of our society are happy to go.

its not even that, its society themselves that seem to be so dimmed down that they dont even question the logic behind it rather see job well done  crazy times and to think this madness took less then a year to achieve.

Do you think that this was quite a large part of the "Emergency" from the outset.....it's effectively getting a Corkman to request the return of the B & T's.....Manipulation par excellence :(

Well that's not what you said. You literally quoted a statement and followed it by "Actually here it is" but the link didn't say that at all.

Not defending the paper, just tired of things being misrepresented.

So now that we know that outdoor transmission (including construction) accounts for just 0.1% of cases. Can we get construction back, encourage sports and stop shaming groups of people socialising outdoors?

Part of me thinks the Cif are happy enough going back on the 12th as this week would have been traditional builders holidays. Keeps the unions in side too.

Bit it's the travelling to work, parents staying at training sessions, golfers having outdoor cups of coffee after the golf that causes the other 99.9 percent of cases so keep them closed

Of course. The government are losing the public, which is why this particular piece of propaganda is being disseminated now as though it's new information.

The fact that in the same article you have an "expert" asserting that the minimal risk of outdoor spread was up to now "hearsay" while a referred study was published back in September should tell you all you need to know about the disdain in which the political and media class here hold the general public.

Does it matter considering every country on the planet has construction open regardless
