E90 - Crankshaft Position Sensor seems struggling, how much would it cost to replace?

    Today my car struggled to start, it takes about 5-6 seconds of cranking until it starts up. (BMW E90 LCI - 318D - 2009).

    It starts but I feel like this might be a hit-and-miss start.

    My generic OBD scanner says: P0336 - Crankshaft Position Sensor

    1) Just wondering what would average replacement cost?
    2) (I assume it can fail to start any moment), I am going to continue to drive it locally until next week (when I have mechanic booked), would this damage engine in any way? (Can this cause any sort of valve/piston collision or cause further damage)?

    The car drives well (after start-up) but sometimes intermittently there is powerless at around 1.3k RPM, once it reaches 2k RPM - it takes off with no issue.

    Any errors relating to positioning of cam or crank could be down to stretched timing chain.
    Those engines are no stranger to a stretched chain but i guess that is worst case scenario.

    Your guess was correct.

    Stretched Chain, Faulty EGR and Crank Gear.

    So I am going for replacement of all those + clutch with flywheel.

    :(

    Absolute lunacy on a 12 year old car. Did you get a price for all that work? It's going to be sore, prepare for open wallet surgery:mad::mad:

    Yeah I can't afford new car currently, everything else is running perfect so €2200 total for all of those is the only option for me.

    Not very economical for an old car but that's the only option unfortunately.
