Rightly, or wrongly... my opinion is that we will most definitely still be here in 6 or 8 weeks. Prob shift the 5k to 7 or 10. Something ridiculous. Then 6 weeks later they'll allow travel in your own county. Then 6 weeks after that they'll allow country wide travel. BEST CASE. In August, probably...

    This hasn't aged well.

Ok. Gawd, that knocked me for 6. I'm not expecting a baby but I was floored at her tweet.

All the maternity hospitals have info on their websites/HSE website. Basically a named partner can be there for labour/birth and then for up to 2 hours a day. No other visitors allowed.

Honestly Tony, you need to get a different hobby man. Getting excited about an increase in cases and worrying about how "fast" we are opening up are not healthy signs.

A real game changer would be getting a few nice IPA's and sitting out by a canal of river and enjoy some friends company.

I'm a little anxious about it, but confident the vaccination program is gonna get us to the point where we pass around joints alongside the beers by the summer, if that's your sort of thing.

I think by June we'll be in a great place. And the caution shown by NPHET and the gov could significantly reduce by then too.

They're calling it Level 5 with adjustments.

    .

Compare these restrictions with the link I posted on level 4 restrictions (very little difference)

For some reason they don't want to call it level 4, not wanting people to review their passports is a possibility?

That's one reason but I'd say the main reason is that level 5 is still tied to evictions as the useless gimps haven't changed the legislation yet.

I came on this thread to find out if they call this level 4 or 5 cause I want a passport for my son. Sick of the nonsense at this point

Honestly, I can understand people being anxious about this whole thing. The level of fear being constantly put out is something else. However, we are over the hump now and there is absolutely nothing to warrant the constant fear mongering by NPHET. Hospital and ICU numbers continue to come down, positivity rate well below 5%, cases dropping again, 800,000 vaccines dished out.

It's not good for you or anyone else to be so engrossed in everything COVID related.

Yes it was a thing at one stage...but pressure got it changed...maybe they dont realise? Is there any other factors like father is positive?

I'm afraid you don't know what you're talking about and you're ignoring countries like Chile who are miles ahead of us on the vaccine front but having a terrible time.

This is absolutely not over. The good news is that it soon will be.

I read a post on twitter this eve that fathers are not allowed be at the birth of their child in Ireland at the moment? Is that actually true?

Fathers must wait outside the hospital and are only allowed to come in when the woman is fully dilated and at the pushing stage.
This means that whether a woman is in active labour for 30 minutes or 30 hours, her partner isn’t allowed to be there to support her until the very end.
It’s awful for both the mam and the dad. She has to go through the majority of the experience by herself and the dad is deprived from being there for his partner and new baby.

They are allowed to stay for an hour or so after the birth, then they can’t see their partner or baby again until they are discharged from hospital.
For a woman who has a section, that could be 4/5 days later. An awfully long time to be alone in hospital with no family support, particularly for a first time mother.

It seems majority of the countrymen and media are either too obliged to government or happy with the carrots offered today.

In December level 5 was introduced due to the number of positive people, increased hospital/ICU admissions (Every year Nov/December Hospitals are overwhelmed with admissions) , Deaths (deaths were always higher in winter time). After 3 months, hospital admissions decreased 70%, 800000 doses of vaccine administered. deaths came down to single digit or none. still the relaxations made (due after 2 weeks or end of april) are mere carrots.

No justification for not resuming full construction, click and collect for retailers, what about people with non covid related illness. there will be more death due to cancer than covid.

clowns at NPHET have only one thing to say...'hold firm' may be for another 10 years.

I also came on here to find out if this means it's still level 5. Anything lower means I'm back to work. I'm sure I'll find out this week anyway from my employer but was just hoping to know asap.

That seems very extreme...what is the logic...aren't there enough tests to test fathers to be?

Government sources are saying this afternoon that 10km is the only choice they have right now. County travel off the table.

The general secretary of the Association of Garda Sergeant and Inspectors, warned on Monday morning that any easing of the 5k travel restriction will make policing the pandemic even more challenging.

The public will think they can move more freely which “is going to make the job even more challenging,” she told RTÉ radio’s Morning Ireland.

Turns out the government sources were wrong.

This is not the case in Holles Street and has not been the case for a number of months.

Once the mother is brought to the delivery suite the father is allowed in, not just when they are fully dilated and ready to push. They also allow the father in for two hours each day but are very clear that they do not enforce it as long as you don't rip the piss

Depends on the hospital, no visitors are allowed for inpatients in CUMH.

Unless your baby has the misfortune of ending up in the neonatal unit, in which case, the mam and dad are both allowed to visit the baby separately (but not together).

Not to confident esp with NPHET having full control over whether May's reopenings can happen and we all know who could be back in the chair by then

Calling it level 4 world make the government look somewhat useful

I remember when they first moved dublin to level 2+ and Leo was on the radio the following morning saying how New Zealand did something similar last summer... Because the 2 countries responses are totally comparable

Luckily we got county travel from the 12th of April.

Good thing I didn’t say I was talking about Holles St then, isn’t it?

It’s good to hear that the rule isn’t enforced, though. But it shouldn’t be there in the first place. Fathers/birthing partners should be allowed to visit without exception.

How do nphet have full control? You were saying the same thing yesterday and were completely wrong. Any sign of the made up thousand cases BTW?

Fair enough, I was talking about the rotunda but heard the same about the Coombe.
