    seems to mention €42 toward the cost?

    Lots of places have a range of cheaper glasses that are free with PRSI, eventhough some might be priced at more than 42 euro. Alternatively, as you say, for more expensive frames there is a contribution towards the cost of 42 ish.

    I believe it was 42 and a few cent on a receipt I had once? I just meant it might be 42 when rounded. You can also get a contribution of the same amount towards a lenses change every 2 years if you already have a pair of glasses you want to keep.

    Once every second calendar year, you can get a payment towards one pair of:
    • reading and distance spectacles
    • bifocal or varifocals
    • contact lenses (including disposables)

    Basic frames are free. If you choose more expensive frames, the department will pay €42 towards the overall cost and you pay the balance. Only opticians, optometrists or ophthalmologists who have a contract with the department can provide the treatment. Please check with your treatment provider.
