Free Range Chicken Fillets

I get the whole free range chicken in Tesco, but I've noticed they seem to stock thighs and drumsticks as well as fillets:

I’m sure I’ve gotten free range wings in Tesco too although it was a few years ago.

I got them before in Tesco. I'm only there every so often so I don't know if they have them all the time but you can get boneless free range tights in Tesco.

Didnt know Tesco did boneless free range thighs, must check that out. I get the thigh fillets from Aldi quite a bit, 2.99 for 400g but theyre not free range.

Has anyone here got the knife skills/patience to actually fillet a bone in thigh? I tried it once before and it was grief doing four of them so Im glad that filleted thighs are freely available. I wish they would sell them chopped up into cubes because thats always the way Im using them anyway in curries or stir frys.

I do it all the time.
Sometimes full legs, too.
Once you get the knack, it really pretty quick and easy. 6 thighs takes me less than 10 minutes.

I've even boned out chicken wings!
This is easier than you might imagine but isn't quick.

The Cavan man in me can't pass a tray of six thighs in Aldi for €2. It's €4 for 4 filleted thighs! :eek:

It's all about the prep. Have a basin of hot soapy water available at all times and sharpen your knife.

Peel the skin off, cut off any excess fat. Run your knife along the bone, both sides and then underneath. Cut out the bone and then cut off the bit of cartilage that's left on the fillet. You're done in about 30 seconds!

The biggest pain is washing your chopping board afterwards. Trying to remove the bits of chicken left on there without them sticking to your scouring pad/cloth. :mad:

I have never seen them, not showing online but might be in different shops if there is more demand. The regular boneless thighs are 9.50 per kilo which is crazy.

My trick is not do be careful doing them, if you try and get all the meat off it takes way way longer. You can get a scissors if you want to be extra quick (as it is safer and some might go slower with a knife). You just hack off a good bit of meat and purposely leave plenty on the bone. Then cook the bones with meat all at once with spices on them, the deboned meat can be saved for another dish. So they come out similar to chicken wings, you just eat the meat off the bone. They are quicker to cook too.
