when the pubs do open, let them open well past the 12.30 closing time, lads wont be in a rush then to swallow pints.

Looking forward to the pubs reopening. Spent last Saturday and Paddys day in a friends bar. Good craic both days and loads of cans consumed but just not the same as your regular bar. Cant wait to sink a nice fresh pint of the black stuff from the tap

I just can't wait to get back to a pub where you go and sit at the bar with one of your friends for a quiet pint, then another friend comes in a you make space for him, then another joins a while later and you make room for him, next thing there are 7 of you at the bar, slagging and laughing and it turns into a massive session with brilliant craic that was never planned... the best nights

...especially when it happens on a bank holiday Sunday!!

A Mid June opening is going around with the decision on the €9 meal not decided yet, also the stance of the wet pubs

That timeline makes sense as it's after 3 bank holidays

So the great and powerful nphet and your arch nemesis Tony holohan haven't decided on their April recommendations yet, but they've already got plans for mid June?

I've got a bridge for sale if you're interested.

My betting is that pubs won't open properly until the infection rate is below 10/day, which is uncertain at best.

ill stick to my educated guess of mid august when they have all bank holidays firmly over and two weeks before schools open to get families away for a staycation. Northern Ireland will see a boom this summer in tourism as will mainland UK with irish people heading over from june on. Cant see any hotels/pubs/restauruants open before August

you could have less than 10 cases a day now if nobody went for tests. dosent mean the country would be safe to open, same in august if we keep testing im srure we will keep findiing covid cases. we may never again get under 100 cases a day with all the variants but once vulnerable are vaxxed the risk is way too low to close a business over. theres dodgy chippers more of a health risk than any pub when you get to that stage.

I chose 10/day because that is the level they reached last summer and Dublin pubs were (wrongly in my view) still kept shut. At the moment Ireland is about the same case-rate as the April 2020 peak and that took 75 days to bring down to 10/day, so on that bases a June 2021 reopening is at least plausible.

If reopening were based on purely vaccination rates I think pubs will be lucky to open this year. I don't believe for a second that the NPHET will support reopening until a good portion of Group 14 are vaccinated, and current estimates for that are well into 2022 :(

I was watching a thing on vaccines and Israel have a shot for a shot campaign going on where those who get the vaccine can get a free alcoholic shot. To help the struggling pubs in this country we could do worse than offer a free pint with every vaccine - get people back in the pubs and uptake of the vaccine would improve, especially among the younger people. It might even lighten the mood around the place!

i have that same feeling of dread as you tbh, i think if NYPHET were solely in charge it could january before pubs or any hospitality were allowed open, thank God there not though, surely government will not stand by and let that happen. The government only paying pup til late june is a good sign

Wet pubs will not reopen before November/December at the earliest and quite possibly not until sometime in spring 2022. End of story.

You have to laugh at the definitive predictions, especially 'end of story'.

"End of story" should follow a fact to support such a concrete assertion, otherwise it constitutes trolling. The reality is that nobody knows, even NPHET/the Government themselves which have been largely reactive rather than proactive. July is my most optimistic prediction, more in hope that vaccine delivery speeds up considerably and key metrics of Covid-related hospitalisations/ICU admissions dwindle to nothing.

Once the over 70's and vulnerable are vaccinated, society needs to reopen.

Sooner the better society opens up. Have a holiday down the country booked for the end of June. Cancelled 3 holidays last year. Dont fancy cancelling another one

Well seeing as they will be remaining closed for another 9 or 10 months at a minimum you will be running the gauntlet for at least that long.:) All part of the buzz yeah?;)

Not being passive aggressive here at all!
    Wind your neck in!
I’m sure you don’t give two fûcks about all of the hospitality businesses could go to the wall and how many will be unemployed but sure you know the story and it doesn’t matter!!!

I'd agree that from a very optimistic perspective pubs might open in July.
I honestly don't see it happening though.

I think we might get restaurants and gastro pubs in July/August if the vaccination programme is working well and if variants aren't screwing things up.

    Thats some huge if's though.

In my opinion it will be 2022 before a wet pub can sell a pint, and it'll be even further into the future before the wet pubs as we knew them in 2019 return. No limits on numbers, no time restrictions, allowed stand/sit at the bar etc.
    Thats 2023 territory.

2023? There won’t be a pub, gastropub, restaurants left in the country!

For 2019 style socialising in a wet pub or any pub for that matter, I think it'll be 2023.

I really do enjoy your utterly pathetic attempts at trolling. They could be a bit less obvious and a bit less transparent, but then again, I'm sure you're trying your best. I think it's a bit sad that I actually look forward to seeing your posts here, gives me a laugh in these trying times. But, ultimately, it's even sadder that you take the time to post on here even though it is abundantly clear you don't like pubs, nor have you the faintest idea what you're talking about. And that is the "end of story".
