EP takes place in September and they seem confident it can go ahead with 70k attendees. Bodes well for DCM in Oct

Good on them for taking the initiative on this.
The vacuum of having nothing to debate openly in society means NPHET get their way indefinitely, time to open up the floor.

am still optimistic it will go ahead
their social media says it is still planned for oct 24th etc

by oct we should be well out of this..

That's what we were saying this time last year :pac:

I'd say they are certainly confident that, with the right blurb at this sensitive time, they can sell 70k tickets, which probably won't be refunded if the event does not go ahead, or goes ahead on a smaller scale.

It's already sold out I thought. They have our money from late 2019 for the 2020 one which got cancelled. Whenever they have it they can't really sell more tickets.

Not all places were given and people will drop out now also

Even if it doesn't go ahead, Europe will be open for the marathons, so plenty of choice

I'm still in for Manchester in October. Fingers crossed it goes ahead.
Sad to say it but I think better odds than the DCM going ahead :(

Yeah probably. Are Belfast doing one at the end of the year I wonder?

Still need to be able to get out of the country!!!!

Really hope tickets are available, haven't been able to do a major run in quite some time and missed the boat on the last round of tickets. If no luck, maybe Belfast might be an option

More positive news with so many larger races planning to go ahead before Dublin marathon.

Wonder what measures big city races are looking at now to ensure large fields?

    - Outdoor expo - Marquee style in one end and out the other systems
    - Splitting up each start wave to have multiple starts within the wave a couple of mins apart (20 mins per wave, 3 x 2 min between starts per wave)
    - Multiple start locations to merge at point further up the road once field has settled, similar to NY & London.
    - Masks till you cross the start line
    - Bottles not cups on route

The finish area will be a tougher situation to manage, although I don't too many people with a virus are going to manage 26 miles.
    - Multiple chutes from each medal queue just after finish line to spread out exits.
    - Bag drop area should be ok if using multiple queues to filter people in and out

I like going to expos but are they really necessary? Could they not just post all race numbers etc out this year?

I'm not sure why bottles instead of cups would be a covid prevention measure but I am all for it anyway! It is so much better grabbing a bottle of water which you can actually carry without spilling and sip from without stopping.

The great thing about this (from a purely personal view) is that I was supposed to be taking part last year with a friend so means I'll have to do some training for it. Wouldn't be much good at providing moral support if I couldn't manage the distance :o

Even better, use the edible biodegradable pouches (seaweed extract) for water and sports drinks.

Grab a couple and you're sorted, no long term pollution if you drop them.

Good to see that they’re not rushing into cancelling - I’ll take a possibility of it going ahead!

I can see there being new start and finish lines this year, maybe the Phoenix Park?
It’s very cramped where they have it now.

I’d probably prefer to be cramped outdoors versus on a Shuttle bus to the start line in phoenix park from the city centre. Difficult to avoid at least some level of crowding at a start line, no matter the location.

Well the road for the start is twice as wide as any road in the phoenix park. Same for the run in to the finish line.

I do not want DCM to take place if we cant have crowds on the street though. Thats what sets Dublin apart for me.

If the finish was in the park that would be crap imo

Can't see the park being used for the start anyway, the waves won't be spread out enough to get out any of the gates without serious congestion.

Might be a possibility to move it to St Stephen's green, would have more space and would have enough open road to stop congestion at the start.

I don't think they could stop crowds around the course, even it they tried.
The start/finish area though they began to restrict families waiting in the one place in 2019, it was often a huge pinch point after exiting the barriers up to then.

The logistics of having the start and finish in different areas would have had to be factored into the entry fee so I can't see it happening this year.
Managing the baggage transfer would be huge, unless they went with a no baggage option.

If we do somehow hit the target of 80% of adults vaccinated by end of June why do we still need to worry about outdoor crowds at the end of October? Surely at that point the danger of illness is no more likely than flu?
Either that or Pfizer, AZ etc. have been telling porkies.

We don't need to worry about outdoors really, we didn't at any time in the last 12 months.
Those muppets in NPHET are so anti social they tried to stop people mixing both indoor and outdoor without seperating the two by the obvious difference in risk.

I would be concerned that come the Autumn that if Meehole is still in power NPHET would be dictating policy still and they won't go down without a fight.

The risk of catching Covid OUTSIDE is almost non existence

One documented case in China of 2 men literally speaking into each others face for 45 minutes I believe.

Absolute mad gang of scientists running the country...beyond embarrassing.
