Cooper Strips to prevent roof algae build up

Folks, about to replace the roof on my parent's house (nearly 50 years old). It's the roof felt that is breaking down and water leaked in during the recent storm. If I am putting on new tiles I was wondering if it was worth putting on copper strips to prevent the build up of algae. House is near the coast, not sure if that makes the algae build up more prevalent. But I reckon if the strips work then this is the time to install them. Has anyone experience of them, do they work?

Hi, i have fitted copper strip at the top and one third and two thirds down my roof on a slated roof on the south side only on my home. It has helped alot with the growth of moss. I bought 50mmx1mm rolls of copper from uk, i pushed it up under slates about 15mm and used crampions and tec 7 to keep it in place. It will mellow to blend more with the slate colour in time. With tiles you can place it on the capping course, but it will only work for about 3 to 4 ft down so extra strips needed further down.
