Pleasingly tidy looking Corolla with a small bit of tax and NCT til September, €800

Theres still a market for these, but lift backs are undoubtedly the least desirable

What's a little odd about that car is that it's a 98 UK car that has the facelift light coloured interior but with the pre facelift exterior. Irish models got a facelift in 1999 which included light coloured interior, full colour coded bumpers and chrome chicken wire type grill. This was before the proper facelift in 2000.

Interesting, it looks like the same interior in my old 1997 e11, which was one of the very first sold (registered 30th June 97, they were released that week AFAIK)

It’s Irish spec, maybe you mean built in the uk?

I thought all the early ones had the light interior?

    I'd love this

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2003-audi-a4/27016118

    03 Audi A4 1.9TDI Quattro
May be priced on the higher side but seems to be fully spec'd and a lot of work done recently (new NCT, timing belt recently replaced, new tyres, just serviced)

You both are probably right. I thought they only put the light coloured interior in the 1999 mild facelift model. Thought that one was a UK model due to the basic spec.

If it was an estate I'd go have a look at it tomorrow.
    Looks great.

That's the same seller that had the overpriced colt until recently. I think he'll have bettwr luck with thaf Fiat, 98 is still a fresh enough reg though.

There was a rotten non-runner Mk1 punto posted in the dreamer thread recently also belonging to the seller.

Newer shape Superb, these are slowly falling into banger territory.

NCT 11/21, taxed for the next 9 days (390 p/a band), galactic mileage but claims of service and other work done recently (belts/pumps etc)

    €1950

I’ve noticed that too, there’s a few hovering around the €2k mark on Donedeal. A decent one could be an excellent bangernomics buy

Clean-looking (certainly in comparison to 90% of banger Skodas on DD anyway) Octavia 1.9TDI, big mileage, NCT 09/21.

Mileage not too bad for a PD.1.9

That Superb must have been a PSV at some time (I know most of them are). You can still see the stub of the taxi ariel sticking out on the driver's side rear panel close to the fuel filler.

Pre-facelift (no ugly "glasses") 9-5 with very low mileage (101k km / 63k miles), NCT 08/21 tax end of the month.

Don't see many of these left, 406HDI, low mileage for what is a 20 year old car, NCT 08/21 (was only tested in Feb so that should be some small reassurance)

Zooming in on picture 6 looks like the buttons for cruise control (although doesn't mention it; something to look at), and although the front seats aren't heated (the buttons are blank) looks like they're in pretty decent condition, as do the rear seats.

I remember Auto Express doing a head to head of the then brand new 406, phase one in 1996 (showing my age) against its rivals, the Vauxhall Vectra, Mondeo and Xantia also I think. Probably was a pretty high spec model for the time they had for the test but the 406 struck me as so handsome and nicely finished versus its rivals. I say that as someone who is not normally a Peugeot fan.

Best photos I’ve seen in a long while on Done Deal. Seller uses own name plus only one ad ever. All pluses in my book.

He even managed to get the Ringsend chimneys into the photos if I’m not mistaken- viewing on a mobile so I’m not 100% sure

He did, I reckon he took the photos over Bull Island direction, possibly right around here, judging by the aspect and background

Seller is known for it but it's insanely too much money for it. Even if he halved the asking price he'd only be getting warm IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,092 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

Remaining tax on that Stilo is worth €285. I'd say the car and tax combined is only worth about what, €4-500?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,152 ✭✭✭26000 Elephants

They are very underpowered in 1.2, but worth a punt at half the asking alright.

I remember when the Stilo came out at first how popular they were but that changed quickly unfortunatly for Fiat when people realised how underpowered and unreliable they were. Such a pity as they were a lovely very comfortable car to sit in. Fiat were doing great deals at the time too.

We well my parents nearly bought one in 97 it was either that or a 306 and I found the 306 brochure but not the 406 and confirmed cedar them to by a Megane Classic instead. Much more modern better car than the ancient 306 with its crappy dash. The mother would not have drove the 406 anyway as it would have been too big that's why when the Skoda Octavia came out some years later it was perfect. That and it would have been a horrible base spec 406.

I drove a 1.6 when they came out, thought it was a 1.2, was a very heavy car, would have bought one if it wasn’t for the lack of power. I was driving a 146 1.4 at that moment and it felt slower than that (even though on paper they were the same) I probably dodged a bullet there.

For what it’s worth they had savage tech on the early ones, and the 3 door with the pano roof was a very nice car. They were also quite affordable.
They had quite a bad reputation though, not sure how bad they really were.
