Look at that video: it was raining all day, but the ground in Salthill was dry.

Are you saying this wasn't during restrictions?

    No investigation into Salthill event

Gardaí say they are not investigating any breaches of public health guidelines, following a wedding in Salthill this afternoon.

Footage circulating on social media platforms this evening shows a number of people emerging from the local Catholic church, after a wedding ceremony, and circulating briefly around a horse drawn carriage.

Local gardaí were at the scene and say they engaged with those present.

It is understood they are satisfied that no breaches of the five kilometre travel rule took place, as those attending the wedding were from the local area.

Under Level 5 guidelines, no more than six people are allowed to attend a wedding.

No fixed payment notices were issued for breaches of public health regulations, following this afternoon's ceremony.

Are the Gardai only enforcing the 5km rule?

Either-way, in the videos circulating you can see part of the prom closed off & at least one individual outside the church was wearing a mask so it's during restrictions.

Yes, you can see on the second video, people walking past with face masks.

You'd wanna fairly high up the naive scale to believe they were within 5km of their homes.

The 5km limit is only for exercise.

You can travel anywhere for food shopping, medical treatment, and essential family events like weddings.

I'm not sure the essential travel thing applies to wedding attendees that are in excess of the recommended amount.

Not going to lie, I immediately thought your statement was misleading. It is not. I was ready to give out to you, but I was in the wrong. :pac:

"At Level 5, the public health risk means that you will be asked to stay at home, except for travel for work, education or other essential purposes, or to take exercise within 5km of home. There will be no gatherings other than small numbers at funerals and weddings."

    https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/2dc71-level-5/

You can travel for the following reasons:

travel to and from work, where work involves providing an essential service
teachers, SNAs and other school staff will be allowed to travel to school to facilitate distance learning
to attend medical appointments and collect medicines and other health products
travel to attend disability day services
    travel to attend a court
for vital family reasons, such as providing care to children, elderly or vulnerable people, and in particular for those who live alone, but excluding social family visits
    for food shopping
for farming purposes (food production or care of animals)
to attend a wedding or funeral
    to visit a grave

I work in salthill and it was most definitely yesterday, brought the whole place to a standstill. The reception was in a hotel nearby.

But only 6 can attend weddings, what reason did the rest give for being at the church in Salthill?
