    Whats the biggest indicators / cliches in a murder mystery of the identity of the culprit?

    One I notice is, when the profile of the actor of a supporting character is higher than other supporting actors

    When one character in particular is portrayed as the underdog - the nice guy who is sidelined by the other characters and lives in their shadows. Usually a sibling or a friend of the victim.

    It's the main antagonist slowly realizing something about themself throughout the film.

    They make a throwaway comment about a friend who died years ago, they were more than not involved in their death.

    There is a somewhat obvious other suspect who is actually not involved but takes the focus off the real culprit.
