    He was told that he needs a log book to get insurance....I’m Not sure about it as I just bought my car from new a few years ago - don’t really understand why the dealer is playing games as it’s a 2007 banger (can’t be worth a lot).

    No once the cash is paid and the logbook signed the car is legally yours therefore you can get insured

    Yes, you are right as far as I know. However, most insurers will accept a sales invoice with the garage logo or print on it as a temporary proof of purchase. From that moment onwards, you'll have 30 days to provide the logbook/VRC.

    With that sales invoice and the form you can find in this thread (+ some additional steps uou can find in the form too) there's still a chance to get the logbook.

    They must do this just for non-Irish people - I've never once been asked for anything ever to prove I owned a car to an insurance company - if lying my insurance would be void anyway.
