I take it he actually had it and you signed the change of ownership part? Was it in his name?

You will have to go through the process of getting the AGS and a peace commissioner/solicitor to sign/stamp a declaration now that you are the new owner and send it off to the vehicle licensing folks.

It's worth keeping in mind that the post has been absolutely FUBAR'd the last few weeks. It's entirely possible that he sent it and it's gone AWOL.

Have you contacted Shannon directly to ask them how to proceed? It won't be the first time this has happened.

You can get a form do change of ownership, get signed by solicitor or oaths person can't think of name.

Did you take a photo of all sides?

Did you look on the Change Of Ownership page on motortax.ie to see if they had been notified of the change...
    https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/changeOwnership.do

Do you know if he actually owned the car? If he did a few trips through a toll bridge unpaid should jog his memory to send it in.

A very unlikely story from the seller I'd say, probably a wheeler dealer posing as a private seller who flips cars on the side. Did he or you put your details down on the new owner section or did he promise he would after you bought it?

    An Garda Siochana

The RF134 is only to request a replacement log book by the current registered owner. It is no good to you as you are not the current registered owner.

Have a read of this similar thread, you will need to contact Shannon who will send you out the correct form to fill in and get stamped:

So I'll get a Statutory Declaration form then

It could be delayed, I still haven't received a book that was sent off start of December.

I used the same form as this in October:
    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://smartcpr.ie/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Declaration-by-person-acquiring-motor-vehicle.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjwo_TcxIXuAhUxZxUIHUAvBrMQFjAAegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw174h7bI2FFY9Gx1sUuqsFY

Got it in the tax office, stamped by a garage, a peace commissioner, and a copy of a utility bill and the new book came out a week or 2 later.

The book I sent the from off for, I received it.
The book for the car I bought in December, I haven't received yet.

Google declaration by person acquiring motor vehicle, it's the first link that comes up.

As a matter of interest did you history check the car to check everything lined up to the way the seller described the car?

Rather than start a new thread, I'll hijack this one...

Long story short, crashed car on Friday, put through a claim with Insurance company, they're looking for Vehicle registration certificate, have searched every nook and cranny in the house and can't find it, so have filled out the R134 form, got it stamped etc.

Thing is, the motor tax office is closed, nobody answering phones, Shannon not answering phones either. Emails coming back as contact your local motor tax office, but emails to my local motor tax office are coming back as undeliverable. Nightmare! Need to get the replacement cert ASAP, have no choice but to send it by post and hope it gets sent on to Shannon by local motor tax office, which is currently unmanned..

Anyway, question is, does anyone know who to make the bloody postal order out to? Is it Department of Transport?

Have you finally got the log book?

The Dealer I bought the car from said he sent everything on 9th January but mototax.ie status has not changed at all yet.

Now I'm not sure if this is just a normal delay or dealer is fooling me or taking advantage on me for being a foreigner with no so much idea about cars and Irish legislation...

I'm just going to reply myself. I finally got the log book today. I believe it was the dealer sending everything late.

I saw there was a Declaration of Acquisition of Motor vehiclein this thread that I was about to use, but in case you need a full one in good quality, I just leave here the one I've been sent by the Motor Tax Office today (remove spaces in the link)

    I hope this helps.

A friend of mine bought a car two months ago now. It's second hand and the guy who sold the car said he'd post the log book over to him. However, two weeks later, there was no log book. My friend went to see the guy in his garage where he deals cars and the car dealer got violent and threatened him.

Now my friend is a couple of grand down, no log book and can't drive the car. He's contacted the place in Shannon and they told him that the log book was switched into someone else's name the day before he bought the car. What's that about?

I'm a bit concerned for him now - does anyone know what to do? My friend is Brazilian and really needs a car or the money back.

    Thanks!

There’s nothing stopping him from driving the car. Print off the form that was posted previously above and send it off to Shannon

He was told that he needs a log book to get insurance....I’m Not sure about it as I just bought my car from new a few years ago - don’t really understand why the dealer is playing games as it’s a 2007 banger (can’t be worth a lot).

always, always imo have an envelope with Shannons (cant recal exactly) address on it, I think it is freepost, although Im sure I placed a stamp on at least some myself, if someone is unwilling to sign the paperwork, seal it in a stamped envelope I provided and have us both witness it go into a post box, then I'd be suspicious.
Had one situation in the past, I guessed it sounded like they just couldn't be arsed rather than something more sinister, and it seemed to turn out that way as the paperwork turned up in the end, that said the seller treated it like I was hassling them for the logbook, it was a hassle and waste of time on my part, and needless thinking is this a scam or just inconsiderate laziness.
So, never again, if they cant be at least concerned that the log book is going into the post box themselves.
Really, it should be the required or recommended process to sign the document and both seller/buyer witness it go into post box, no messing about.

No once the cash is paid and the logbook signed the car is legally yours therefore you can get insured

Yes, you are right as far as I know. However, most insurers will accept a sales invoice with the garage logo or print on it as a temporary proof of purchase. From that moment onwards, you'll have 30 days to provide the logbook/VRC.

With that sales invoice and the form you can find in this thread (+ some additional steps uou can find in the form too) there's still a chance to get the logbook.

They must do this just for non-Irish people - I've never once been asked for anything ever to prove I owned a car to an insurance company - if lying my insurance would be void anyway.
