I did a search and no previous thread popped up

I'm looking forward to this and hoping Murphy's resurgence run continues

I never watch the trailer of Comedies as it ruins all the punchlines, but here it is for those who do

Since when do Film critics ever like popcorn Comedies? ;-)

Two of it's three writers wrote the original Coming To America, so let's see

the original introduced Samuel L Jackson to the world

Honestly I'd rather see what 1988 Eddie Murphy thinks of the world in 2021 in a stand up sequel to RAW than this.

    We might get both ;-)

I think Netflix will still make him a stand up offer he can't refuse

the first one was hit & miss, although i loved the cameo's ..i do believe it was Eddie Murphy who played all the characters in the barbershop?

I thought one of my cousins might have got an early leak of it, so I just asked them there

    Result:

"Rocco\'s Coming In America, Scene 06"

A very different Film I'd imagine

Its suppose to make money by millions of people watching it worldwide to confirm it's crap. Some films have that goal, especially sequels.
Of course it might not be crap, but regardless that is the goal, and it will indeed be watched by millions and make millions.

A mix of Murphy and Arsenio Hall I think?

it has 52 on metacritic currently which is pretty good for a comedy and popcorn movie as someone said

so not as bad as i feared, you may now all proceed to watch it

Where does the idea come from that a "popcorn movie" can not be bad.

Lady on Newstalk just tore this apart saying it's a basically the same as the original but less funny.

Also some debate if the movie has racist elements due to it's protrayal of Africans, that was an issue with the first one too.

african americans being racist towards africans??

Pretty weak, maybe it's rose tinted glasses but I thought the original was far better.

Best bit was Morgan Freeman and the singing and dancing pieces wore thin quickly.

Not completely terrible but not funny either.

The original was in my top ten of most favorite films ever.

This was a complete load of sh1te. I totally thought it was going to be as well ....

I actually fell asleep during the last third .... I woke to last 15 mins .... I will save myself the torture in going back to see it.

Was the first one funny? I don't recall it being funny, it was just a good movie, with lots of characters .

There was definitely bits that got a laugh out of me - there was the bathing scene that was rehashed in the sequel. The fish out of water situation was played much, much better in the original. I remember Eddie Murphy's character loudly proclaiming one night outside his apartment about how great New York was until a local shouted out the window to shut the fcuk up.

Not a full on comedy but it definitely had funny bits. Must watch it again though.
