Anyone here have any experience of Carhartt workwear? I've been looking at a work jacket on screwfix but wondering if they are worth the money?

Definitely worth the money, ive the detroit jacket years, can't remember where I picked it up? It gets wild abuse and all that gone is the cuffs have worn a bit, briars, barbed wire its been stuck in it all not a loss to it, not water proof but takes a good while to get through it, there is a waterproofer available I believe, and blocks wind well,the detroit is lined with horse blanket and no padding but surprisingly warm in winter,

Only two things i would say is when new there as stiff as a board, 2 washes or a week wearing will have them grand and washing them, they loose a little colour, so avoid heavy usage of detergents, oh and its American sizing generally so they run a little on the bigger size of fitting, I'm normally a large in a jacket, think im medium in carhartt

That's brilliant info thanks for that. I'm looking at the Rockfort jacket on Screwfix it looks the business but I've bought "good" brand name before and they haven't lasted.

Just looked it up there out of curiosity, I see its a nylon jacket, the one I have is duck cotton, do quite heavy material, so might not be as durable, but carhartt had a great reputation for work wear so I dont think you should be disappointed

I'll have a look at the heavier one and see if I can source one if they are that good

No problem with carhartt lasting, not very comfortable if I'm honest and expensive but they do last, have a few trousers here and they have stuck out the worst of welding and grinding and everyday farm use.

I've a Duck cotton Carhartt jacket that I bought in 1997 and still wear it working a couple a days a week. I'm not farming but do a good bit of outdoor/field work. It's a bit frayed in places but still great for outdoor work. As above, not waterproof but you can wear it a while before the rain gets through. Can walk through briars etc and it holds up.
Agree with Charolois about the sizing. I usually take a large but a medium in the Carhartt workwear range fits perfectly. I have a few other carhartt jackets too (not used for dirty work) and they're great quality.

Good gear. My father worked in construction in the US years ago and swore by their stuff. Got his brother to post a fawn coloured duck coat in the early 80s. Still intact and it saw some hardship.
I've 2 duck jackets and they're grand and warm. Metal zips and hard wearing material. Might go for work trousers at some stage. Only thing I've noticed is their range has shrunk and colour choice is limited. EPT in Carlow and Caulfields in Galway stock some of the Carhartt range. Sizing is on the big side(to cater for the Yanks!!)

What about reflective jackets and Trousers as often they can be expensive. I see them a lot at Markets throughout the country but not sure what discount I would be getting there. Anyone ever buy from them from the markets?

Only expensive the day you buy will buy a jacket this year from them for sure. Bought long sleeve light jumpers in EPT a while back great warmth in them. Sizing is massive in them too it feels great to have an L size fitting loose on me again 🙄😂 they have the duck trousers there too in EPT.

Price could drop on them too as they enforced a vaccine mandate for their factory staff and going by posts on social media there main customer base ie blue collar workers in the land of the free isbt taking to kindly to it at the moment.
