    Never!

    If I could get a pint on O'Gara's I wouldn't be bothered.

Finally made it over to Martin's and didn't get distracted by other Whiskey; went to the counter, asked for the Kilbeggan SG NAS...

Have you tried Mitchells? They have a branch on the north quays, in the IFSC, which isn't too far from Martins. Terrible place to get parking though.

I left a few of the November/December tastings for later as I correctly surmised that there would be f all to do around now. Got to the Glengoyne tasting last night and I know it's going to cost me money. The 10, 18 and 21 got progressively more complex and are really well priced for what they are. The Teapot Dram packs a massive punch. I loved it. The tasting also included the Smokehead Sherry Bomb which is exactly as it sounds. Very impressive selection.

On another note, I was in Ardkeen Stores in Waterford this morning and they had three if the Waterford 1.2 releases at €70 which I'm pretty sure is a price drop of €5?

Today is apparently Irish Whiskey Day... something to do with 03/03 that escapes me? Triple distilled maybe?

All a bit random, but here are some Bushmills cocktails suggestions here to mark the day.

Three years matured and tripled distilled.

Waterford have announced SEVEN new releases. Two are available worldwide whilst five are country exclusive.

Hook Head: Edition 1.1 – The lighthouse at Hook Head, an extreme maritime terroir, stands resolute against the full force of the Atlantic Ocean on Ireland’s southern coast. Exposed to salt-laden storms, Martin Foley’s barley grows on clay/loam soils of the Elton series. This edition is a spice bomb with notes of cloves, salted caramel, liquorice, ginger biscuits, lemon zest, and chilli chocolate.

Lakefield: Edition 1.1 – Lakefield, inland in lush Co. Laois, is farmed by the enigmatic Seamus Duggan – a Barley Grower of the Year trophy winner. Derived from limestone and sandstone, these well-drained, deep loam soils produce exceptional barley. This edition is a mellow dram with hints of rhubarb and apple tart fresh from the oven.

Grattansbrook: Edition 1.1 – UK only
Lacken: Edition 1.1 – France only
Tinnashrule: Edition 1.1 – Germany only
Mortarstown: Edition 1.1 – Belgium only
Wilkinstown: Edition 1.1 – Netherlands only

What is the general consensus on Waterford Distillery? Never tried it and have seen a lot of hype around some bottles online. I got a 1.1 Sheestown bottle to see what the fuss was about but am slow to open at the moment.

    I've only tasted the Rathedon.
I think it's a really elegant whisky with a lovely depth.
I'd also kind of elusive - seems to change every time I drink it.
    For me, it's good value.

The Ratheadon (1.1 and 1.2) is a lovely drop.

Wasn't that into the Ballkilcavan (1.1).

Agree with the 'changing taste' comment. Find the same thing with it.

Finished off the Special Reserve 26yo last night... spent a couple of years too long in the cask imo..... slightly too floral for my liking

The "Mourning, Noon and Night" seems remarkably similar to a Boulevardier:

    Is that the Aldi one?
Yeah, it's not what you might hope from a whiskey that old no great length to the finish.
Still, a decent drop for €50.

Yeah, sorry wasn't overly clear...I had bought a couple of bottles when it was out a few years ago, and that was the last half bottle.

I agree it's a decent drop, but it could have been so much better....I remember seeing it in a bar in Dingle about 18 months ago for €13 a glass which I thought was a extracting the urine completely

I overheard a customer in a shop earlier looking for advice on Irish whiskey as a gift. Apparently her partner didn't like either Red Breast 12 or Green Spot! Jameson Black Barrel was suggested before we suggested that the Dingle single malt (her original choice) would indeed make a fine present. I just hope the picky git who receives it enjoys it now. :pac:

Went for a small splash of Red Silkie after dinner tonight myself. It's really very nice. And it looks like I'll be doing my first proper (online) whiskey tasting session on St Patrick's Day. The girlfriend signed me up for Mother Mac's blind tasting event that evening. Nice to have that to look forward to.

Becle/Proximo (aka Jose Cuevro (aka Bushmills)) bought Conor's Mcgregors share in Proper 12 to become sole owner.
Not a bad payday after only a few years in the business.

The ship wheel looks like an orange if you look quickly.

Would give you liqueur vibes a bit too readily.

Done well alright, can see it flopping now ironically, poor quality stuff in reality.

Mcgregor was the actual sales point, wonder if he is tied into promo still?

hahaha my thoughts exactly. Before I read your comment I just got the image of an Old Fashioned after seeing the bottle. Looks very dark in colour. Being from Cork myself I cant criticise it, so in that respect id say its as good as the Dreamcask 32.:pac:

It's nothing special alright. It's a very basic 4 year old blended whiskey.
But I honestly don't think it is any worse than that. Some of the review where over the top imo.

People describing it as paint stripper. But also later raving about some "distillery" that popped up down the road selling great stuff - which is also 4 year old Bushmills stock. :D

Agree - I mean for the price - similar to M&M single grain, more than black barrel etc.

It's just a bog standard that will struggle against standard Jameson but costs more.

Agree completely, you are paying a premium for the brand.
It's essentially Bushmills Original/Black Bush Stock. More sherry that white, but less than black.
At that price pint you've black barrel and other mid whiskeys. And a few more quid with get you a Bushmills single malt if that's your style.

But there's plenty of new distilleries selling 4year old bush/cooley stock at the same or higher prices. Some ridiculous prices the last while.

Be interesting to see what happens to Proper 12 from here. Could be a case of if its not broke don't fix it, but I you'd think the price might creep towards supermarket range with a premium version appearing.

I can't find much online about it .
    Are they being transparent?

Think I read the crowd buying his share are already bushmills owners (could be mistaken there) - just seems odd to remove the drinks best selling point. Then again he is on a downward trajectory these days.

Their gin has been around a spell, so it might be the first of their own whiskey. I found this-

    Interesting.
I see the Holstien (I think) still in that pic (you are not allowed to use the iStill for Irish whiskey) and as it's from three years ago, it's technically possible that this is their own spirit.
However, I'm not sure that they started laying down whiskey 3 years ago.
Also, I suspect that if this is their own spirit, they's make much more of a song and dance about it!!

I'm open to correction on this, though.
