Finally made it over to Martin's and didn't get distracted by other Whiskey; went to the counter, asked for the Kilbeggan SG NAS...

None in stock despite what the website says!

I'm never getting it am I?

Havng some lovely Redbreast 12. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say a spike of Talisker10 makes it even better.

Gonna have to do that now!

After this bottle of West Kerry Carraig Dubh first though.

    .

I used the supremely scientific ratio of a glass of RB12 to a dribble of Talisker10. Interested to know what you think.

I'm an extremely unsophisticated whiskey drinker - I've hardly met a whisk(e)y yet that I don't like but having tried a Talisker on the urging of a German colleague - it's the first one I really hated, was like drinking whiskey with a tablespoon of salt

So adding anything into it must be an improvement :D

I don’t find Talister too salty but I know where you’re coming from. I had the same reaction to Ledaig10. It was like french kissing Lot’s wife.

Don't you worry. I'll be straight in here anyway.

Got the same message. I briefly considered it. Then I thought about how I'd feel being homeless with my bottle of Teelings.

Did this just win World whiskey awards 2021 Category as best Irish single malt over 12 years?
Not suggesting that it makes it more special, but trying to get a reasonably priced 24 year old is like pulling hens teeth.

That 28 year old is mighty stuff.

Having a Drumshanbo, keep forgetting just how nice it is - would take it over the RB.

I've been debating pulling the trigger on this for a wedding gift. Would appreciate the voucher if it's still available?

Ditto. A Spot tasting ended up in my ordering all 3 Greens, Blue and Yellow!
Pairing Jameson Crested Black Ball tonight with 8° Black Ball stout. Both gorgeous.

    He's not wrong.

Though you need to get the ratios right. Just need a drop of Talisker to "freshen" it up.

Enjoyed the Cognac and Port finish. Had the cask strength cognac finish before and it's worth seeking out. The new make spirit is good and promises a good future for Clonakilty if they get the wood and finishes right. The 15 year old is single cask Bushmills so enough said. The double oak was so so. Hated the Bordeaux finish. Sour red fruits and a bitterness on the finish. Not for me.

This inspired me to open up the sample Clonakilty set I picked up in Supervalu.
I actually quite liked the Bordeaux finish... but then I enjoy Bordeaux wines that my OH describes as sour.

That said, in terms of wine cask finishes I'd put the Gelstons Pinot Noir or Green Spot Chateau Montelena well ahead of it.

Got a bottle of Jameson Crested over Christmas. Not something I’d think to pick up myself but a lovely drop. Single pot still meets Sherry cask in a really nice way. Have a bottle of redbreast Lustau I was going to crack open tonight but might sip on this a while longer!

Not enjoying a Penderyn Legend sample from a Tasting.com set of World Whiskies. A bit of a tame dragon. It feels thin and artificial. For whatever reason, it resurrected memories of slamming cheap nightclub B52s fadó fadó. Bizarre!

It’s my first experienve of Penderyn and unless I am back holidaying in Wales (hopefully sometime sooner than 2031 *fingers crossed*) I won’t seek anything else from their range.

That's an awful way to treat Redbreast :(

Anyone got anything to say about the Hyde range?

The 32euro single grain is looking tempting in cws.

I thought they were a bit over-priced, the €10 off in CWS makes them more reasonable.
I haven't had the 1916 single grain, think the one I had was the single grain burgundy cask finish and didn't really stand out for me.

iirc I enjoyed the rum cask finish the most, that's now €40.

The discounts are certainly making them tempting.
