NPHET briefing and they have called the variant 'new virus' about 10 times already.
This New virus thing seems to be the new buzz word to keep people afraid.

NPHET have also advised the Government normal life is still some way off...they know they have lost the people....there may be some extreme suggestions from Government or Nphet yet to come....but it's the last sting of a dying wasp.

Less and less people are buying into this vicious new variant we are all supposed to be terrified of a narrative so blatant that a child could see through it!

WE are one mass movement of people in either protest or civil disobedience or both from ending this fiasco...keep ringing your local tds, this shambles has to come to an end.

Christ they nearly escaped George Lee at the NPHET press conference. He’s just asked a hysterical number of questions re Californian variant

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,536 ✭✭✭Silentcorner

That’s incredibly irresponsible and they know exactly what they’re doing with that terminology.

They are also aware of the anxiety related issues this is causing in ordinary people, this is actually grotesque.

Its been a curious one from the start, our leaders are supposed to behave in a calm, rational manner in times of crisis, keeping the population calm, what we got was the complete opposite for a virus that we can all see the data from now...

Indeed, a lot of people continually forget that:

Are the brits as worried about the British variant as the Irish are?

Nope, Ireland is more afraid of the UK variant and now the California variant... then the UK and California

he has a point! Michael Martin could come out with a cure for cancer and people would say ah heres Me-Hole trying to be a great fella.

Some people have no idea how a country is governed. Its easy to criticise but I doubt anyone here could do it.

I doubt he could do my job but what does that have to do with it?

What do you not "buy into"?

Do you deny that variant is more easily transmitted than the original one?
Please explain what is the issue with pointing out the existence of a more transmissible variant?

Are the brits as worried about the British variant as the Irish are?

Yes. But they believe the fact that they are further ahead on vaccination will get them through.

This thing has been mutating since the start, if you were keeping up...there have been loads of variants...we just didn't obsess over them like we are now....one variant more deadly than the next!!!!

The time of year is the biggest determining factor when it comes to transmissibility!

    It's just the science!

Added to the fact that the vast majority of countries are not performing genome sequencing to even identify any new variants.

There is an interminable blizzard of variants out there right now - and next week, even more variants will be on the menu.

But ultimately, it's the same virus - the same "disease" - and roughly the same kind of vaccine; at least in terms of the same family.

Like I said, a child can see through this at this stage...

The whole idea from the start has been to focus everyone's attention on the deadly virus that none of us can see...and keep it on it using whatever emotive language you can!! Ram it down everyone's throat all day every day and they'll jump through any hoops you like!

A virus will always mutate. It cannot be controlled in that sense.

If restrictions are based on new variants, then there will always be restrictions.

That jumping at ‘new’ variants is hilarious at this stage, but as they say a drowning man will clutch at a straw. Indeed.

It’s genuinely not even mentioned here anymore. The only variant talk is of the South African one and Jonathan Van Tam and Chris Witty both threw shade at the media for their irresponsible reporting of it.

Is the Illuminati involved in this? What about the shapeshifting lizard elites? Did they do all this to control us?

Even some our first cases here were variants of the ‘original’ Wuhan virus. Anyway the day of the variants is over we are now entering ‘a new virus’ era of fear.

He he...this guy think he got us!!!

I think weak leaders and health bureaucrats from a dysfunctional health system are to blame...and a media industry fueled by hysteria.

But go ring the media with your theories...or give Gemma a buzz, she'll give you the platform you need!!!

Today Glynn said “certainly”, when asked would we reach heard immunity this year.

Today Glynn said “certainly”, when asked would we reach heard immunity this year.

That was such a stupid question by the same "journalist" who asks the most awkward, dopey questions every single time at these NPHET meetings.

You could see and hear Glynn becoming obviously (and justifiably) frustrated at the high-school level inanity that this so-called "journalist" asks biweekly.

Ther is a lot to be optimistic about, the vaccine we did not have 4 months ago , the Covid figures worlwide are dropping , and on and on NPHET have nothing but doom and gloom about never-ending lockdowns :-

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/nphet-says-normal-life-some-way-off-and-vaccination-unlikely-to-fully-halt-covid-19-1.4494969?mode=sample&auth-failed=1&pw-origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.irishtimes.com%2Fnews%2Fireland%2Firish-news%2Fnphet-says-normal-life-some-way-off-and-vaccination-unlikely-to-fully-halt-covid-19-1.4494969

Was talking to a friend of mine who is 86 and has fully recovered from Covid , who had very mild dose -- Why are media not telling us his story, and the many other good stories , just 12 months of NPHET never-ending doom , telling us today eating and excersing are dangerous - when is some politician or journalist going to be brave eneogh to challenge them, and say when the vulnerable are vaccianted when are they going to allow the rest of us who want to actually start living to do so ?

We have Flattened the curve - We are vaccinating the vulnerable -

    So angry and despaired.

Find it ironic that mainstream media aren't asking how come China the country which this virus originated from is bucking the trends of all other economies and societies and is fully open and absolutely flying while every other economy is crashing down.

    China played us for fools.

    The tide has turned:
There is strong support for reopening society and the economy as soon as possible, according to the latest Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI opinion poll, with only a minority favouring a long lockdown until the virus has been eliminated.

The poll also shows that the zero-Covid approach is not endorsed by a large majority of respondents, who say they want things to get back to normal once the elderly and vulnerable have been vaccinated.

Today’s findings also show there is widespread willingness to take the vaccine with 80 per cent saying they would take it tomorrow, and just 14 per cent saying they would not.

    About time too!

Michael Martin needs to forget about NPHET and instead consider the politics of the situation (consider their health advice, yes, but no more than that).

He needs to follow polls such as this, otherwise, he'll face electoral oblivion.

I don't think the zero-Covid approach was ever endorsed by a large majority.

Well the tide has finally turned, looks like a majority of the Irish public now support a more hasty reopening of society than was envisaged by the government.

80% support reopening of schools before summer
70% support reopening of non-essential retail and other services before summer
76% support allowing houshold visiting before the start of summer
74% support foreign travel before summer
88% support construction sites reopning before summer

The only outlier where a clear divide remains is -
39% support indoor dining/pubs reopening before summer

Nearly hard to believe these answers are coming from Irish people.

The usual suspects need to do a media blitz!
