08 Qashqai, wiper hitting off the plastic lip above bonnet

When the wipers are going moderately fast, the lower one seems to have too much reach and is whacking against the plastic lip where the windscreen meets the bonnet.

It's a minor issue in that it's just a bit irritating when raining, but not a major deal. Just wondering is there a quick fix for this or would it need a mechanic to sort?

    Thanks

Is there lots of movement in one of the wipers when they’re turned off. Ie can you move one of the wipers up/down the screen a bit?

My totally unqualified guess is that you have an issue with your wiper linkages.

There’s a tiny chance that the wiper hasn’t been put on the correct position on the spindle, or that the wiper blades you’re using are too long - but you would have noticed that ages ago if that was the case?

More than likely its the bushings worn on the linkage. Its a common enough issue on the pre 2014 model. Last time i changed one the linkage and motor from nissan was around €280 plus vat. You can get repair clips online but i have never used them so dont know how good they are

There was a fella in Kerry that repaired wiper chassis for us.

Sounds like your linkage is gone, they are fairly expensive to replace but you can make an adjustment to the wiper arm position.

If you pop of the caps on the base of the wiper arms you'll find the bits holding them in place, slacken them off so you can remove the arm (they will be tight), while the wipers are at their lowest position, move the arm higher or lower as requires by no more than +/-5mm at a time, tighten, test and adjust as required.

All you need is a flat head and a socket set so don't be afraid of it, I've saved dozens of people hundreds of euro by doing this.

Have tried the clips in the past on request of my old service manger, they never work properly.
