Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does anyone else find it wrong and hypocritical that RTE perform their duty by informing us through documentaries of the need to change our ways and live more sustainably while at the same time pushing Dermot Bannon as a local celebrity?

Whether you like him or not I get that he is entertaining and gets the ratings but at the same time he's encouraging half the country to slap a glass box on the back of their homes or make their homes out of glass!

Large sections of glazing facing south increase solar heat gain into the house which reduces the need for heating. Upgrading the thermal performance of the house through greater insulation and thermally efficient glazing also reduces energy need. Coupled with the fact that almost all houses he does are old and there are minimum requirements his designs would have to reach in terms of BER means that regardless of how much glass he uses the house still has to comply with current building regulations means that no, there is no hypocrisy. His projects always result in a much more energy efficient house than was there previously.

I don't like Bannon all that much, but a properly designed glass box can be extremely energy efficient and sustainable.

there is very little wrong with glass though............(assuming decent quality and well-designed)
