Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does the Xiaomi redmi Note 9 vodafone are selling come with NFC? It seems from xiaomi website availability can vary between markets.

I've tried to order a few days ago (3rd time) but can't log on to vodafone.ie on either the app or the website to see if it got cancelled (again) or not.
Anyone able to log on to their app or website?

Yes I was able to log on to the website. Had to register and they sent me a security token. Had to resend the security token multiple times as when it finally arrived it had expired. Terrible website for sure.

On a brighter note the redmi note 9 arrived this morning. Seems like a nice phone and can confirm NFC is included. Currently looking into xiaomi debloater.

I bought the Note 9 from Vodafone after checking it had NFC. I got round to setting it up for Google Pay with no issues. However it was declined in store and further checking reveals this phone is not approved for Google Pay. I'll dig into it some more but just a heads-up for anyone else hoping to use it for NFC payments.

Instructions for how to check your phones Play Protect certification status:
Open the Google Play Store app.
    Tap Menu Menu then Settings.
Under "Play Protect certification," you'll find if your device is Play Protect certified.

Thats interesting. I actually got this phone for my son. We havent tried to use it to pay for anything. However I just checked the phones certification status on google play and the phone we got is Play Protect certified (at this point in time). I did remove alot of Xiaomi bloatware on arrival not sure if that made a difference.

It's it hard to remove the bloat...

I noticed after a recent slew of updates that the phone is slow. Even moving the camera shows a delay in the onscreen image. So maybe it just needs a new up date. I'm on MIUI Global 12.0.2

I've emailed Xiaomi Ireland about it.

Mine is the same since last update. I see there is a newer global rom for the note 9 which I am going to try and flash over the weekend and see if that fixes the issue. It's a nuisance having to now bring a bank card with me to pay for stuff having relied on the phone.

If it helps I followed https://devcondition.com/article/removing-unneeded-miui-applications/ and went through the various apps (mostly anything Xiaomi). It was a fairly large number of apps that I froze or removed totally.

Mine is still working fine and Google pay worked this afternoon for a coffee.

An uninspiring response from Xiaomi Ireland. But it seems from feedback above NFC functionality and device approval isn't a consistent issue so maybe it'll get sorted with one of the many regular phone updates.

Just on this - Xiaomi.ie is not an official Xiaomi store. Xiaomi have no official presence in Ireland - they just own the Xioami.ie domain address. Is that where you bought the phone?

Those with the NFC issue - where did you buy the phone? Mine has the latest vendor rom from Vodafone. I'm just wondering is it the same for those who bought theirs from Amazon ?

Bought mine from Amazon last Dec. Had no issues with NFC but today (after the update) had to repeat the tap at the card reader before it worked. Don’t know if this is just a once off but glad it worked as I didn’t bring my debit card. Will watch developments with interest.

Looking at getting the Vodafone offer,
I have a 48 SIM, it's activated and using the free 1gb trial data, do I need to purchase membership to port the number to Vodafone.

Would need NFC, so is that a bit hit and miss depending on the phone or updates?

    Thanks

Not sure about the NFC but you don't need the membership. You just need to be able to receive the text to confirm the number.

You might get lucky, but the t+c say sims from lyca, Tesco and 48 are excluded.

After a recent update, Hey Presto, the phone software is now classed as "Approved" by Google for Google Pay via NFC.
Thanks to all who confirmed it worked for them.
I won't be leaving the card at home and trusting NFC 100% for a while after that wobble.
Probably something worth checking after any Xiaomi system updates -or you could have a red face at the front of a cashier's Q !

Is the NFC switched on? Mine had stopped working but eventually worked again - no idea how it did so. I assumed it was because of the last update (Feb 2021) but I havent had any since.

The Mrs got 2 of these using 48sim cards about 3 months back(online and arrived in 3 days) What a cracker of a phone for 90 quid. 4/128gb, excellent camera, screen protector and also a rubber phone case. Just spend 20 mins debugging, Can't fault it and that's coming from a p20 pro that cost 3 times more

A previous poster said they got it recently, ordered online for store pickup with a 48 SIM.

I tried to order last week with a 48 SIM online but the price kept going back to 199 at checkout, so I gave up. Tried again last night seeing as it went back to 100 off and I managed to order at the 99 price, I've a open order but money not taken from my card yet, so not sure if it will be successful

    Update.
I chose a payg package but on checkout it wasn't charged for.
I ported my 48 sim which was accepted by the online system and got an email to say my order was accepted at €99.

The porting and verification is part of the order process

Im getting it delivered to my address.

  • Registered Users Posts: 139 ✭✭VINNIEB

Ordered earlier today, ported from Lycamobile, just got a order dispatched email and tracking number.

    99 euro.

Thanks to you all for the info.

Choose the 20 but you don't need to top up when the phone arrives. You get charged 99 at the checkout.

Yeah, I got that in the end. Fantastic bargain.
Now all I need is another 48 card to arrive. The wife wants a new phone. She's still on the redmi note 5 while Im on an 8 so it's time.

Better check the money tree in the garden :)

Great deal many thanks for a 100e you cant go wrong im on a note 8 for nearly 2years and have no complaints with that just want a change:D

Just ordered and got a confirmation email with a spare lyca mobile i had lying around

I ordered my Lyca Sim, the day it arrived the deal had just finished, went down to €50 off so found a deal on a OnePlus N100 (No NFC) which was €149 but came with €49 headphones(re-gifting to the missus with the N10 5G I bought her) so really ended up being €100.

As of now that offer with OnePlus(direct) is finished so the phone is back to €149. Things to note the camera, and display could be better but for me it's just a backup phone and my daily phone is the work phone so needed a plan B in case things change at short notice.

    https://www.oneplus.com/ie/oneplus-n100

Best thing about the Oneplus order was ordered on a Sunday and delivered by DHL on the Tuesday from their warehouse in Poland.(didn't select priority so can't even imagine what the difference would be, would they teleport it to me? :D )

I currently have a OP7T for work, N100 backup and have a N10 5G for the missus. Having a Xiaomi and Oneplus can be similar, you spend more time explaining to people what the phone is if they're not mobile savvy.

    Hi.

I currently have a Redmi 4a and my wife has a Mii A2 lite. Need to replace the 4a as it's stuck on android 7, with no future updates available. The Xiaomi phones have been great value for money, so no issues in sticking with them. The Note 9 sounds like a good option for a replacement. We are both on 48.ie

How exactly do I go about getting the €99 deal without being tied into the extra €20 a month?

    Thanks.

It's a PAYG offer so no commitment at all.

You need to port a SIM from another network and the discount is applied after ported number is verified. Lyca SIMs are easiest to get but be aware that VF have been a little fussy in the past about Lyca and 48 SIMs porting for phone discount offers although seem to be accepting them more recently....might be just random bad luck that order gets cancelled. If that happens then it'll take a while to get the money returned to your card.

The cart total should be 99e, it might also show the recurring cost of the plan (20e) but that's not required to buy the phone.

SIM needs to be active to receive a port verification code from VF so if the Gomo SIMs are inactive they won't receive anything.

After disappointment from Samsung and Huawei I've tried Redmi 3S years ago. Of course it was budget price with scpecs high above other brands in that days.

Just ordered from Vodafone RN9. I used spare sim card from TescoMobile, no troubles, pick the phone, pick any PAYG €20 offer, proceed to checkout, pay €99. Great stuff

Yes but if the SIM was cancelled, have Gomo said when it will be disconnected? In any event, porting to Vodafone for the phone offer will render that SIM inactive with Gomo and VF will send out a new SIM with the ported number assigned to it.
