What a stupid argument. The average age of the people who are dying is greater than the average life expectancy. I think people would make a lot more sense of this COVID thing for themselves with the starting fact that people DO actually die every year.

The caller is correct, there is no plan.

And the main reason there is no plan is as follows.

People in the HSE are afraid to put their head on the block and make a decision. It's always a case of passing the buck, that's not my department you need to talk to X.

An emergency situation can be managed if a contingency or emergency plan has been thought out, tested and revised as necessary prior to the emergency.

In the case of Covid, they had all of February 2020 to come up with plans, back up plans and so on cos they knew what was coming. A month surely would have been enough.

But somebody who needed to be kept informed was probably on holidays (skiing In Italy) and the unions wouldn't let them work in the evening and at weekends to get it done.

    So here we are.

If you could keep covid out of nursing homes you could keep it out of everywhere.

The point they are neglecting to make is that alot of residents in nursing homes died with covid not from covid - the cause of death was actually due to another medical issue.

It would be very interesting to know what mortality rates for the over 70s is like in the last 12 months, versus previous years.

One of the problems here is that there are never any solutions forthcoming.

I wonder will he entertain any calls today from people complaining that they can’t visit their elderly relatives in the nursing homes?

    Maybe not!

I lost 3 relatives in nursing homes all 3 died of covid.

But I'm realistic enough to acknowledge that each would have died of some illness last year.

And people die of dementia eventually.

We have sacrificed the economy and saved a lot of very elderly.im not sure looking back we will think that was a good idea.

I'm not sure your story would fit RTE's narrative, I wouldn't bother try calling in.

Sorry for your losses by the way.

It's truely sad but unfortunately Covid-19 decimated nursing homes world wide, not just Ireland

To be fair, look at their death rates.

    Shocking.

I heard a statistic yesterday that heart disease (more pertinently reported cases) has declined in the united states for the first time in around 30 years.

THERE HAS BEEN A SUGGESTION THAT IT MAY BE DUE TO REPORTING SOME CASES AS COVID

Unqualified must mean she's an agency caller.

    Yes but that's the past.

I'm talking about the present and future. And the HSEs response has been brutal and RTE and the Indo, Times etc are afraid to call them out on it.

Or people who have died of heart disease had COVID. COVID doesn't kill alot of people but alot of people die with COVID.
