Google App - unable to remove “trending” at top of search

The google app on my phone has started adding trending news items at the top of google search. I’ve toggled trending off in my settings, so I don’t know why this has appeared. The google app on my phone has started adding trending news items at the top of google search. I’ve toggled trending off in my settings, so I don’t know why this has appeared. I’ve played around with various settings, but these irrelevant items continue to appear. I’ve been deleted the app & reinstalled, but no dice - Frank Lampard & new Netflix drama White Tiger keep popping up!
Has this happened to anyone over the last day or two?

Thanks for replying.
Yeah, I’ve gone through those steps.
The trends are appearing intermittently now - hopefully they’ll completely disappear on the next app update.
