    I like Bernie Sanders and I always have since he first came to my attention, I support Donald Trump myself and am strong believer in Trumpism but I have a staunch admiration for a man of Bernie's conviction, Bernie is a straight up hard-left socialist, he holds no punches and was highly wronged in 2016, the Clinton juggernaut derailed Bernie.

    Bernie is a fair and honest character and didn't stoop to their level and was thus sidelined in the run for the Presidency. I believe that Sanders would have have captured alot of the protest Vote which fell to Trump and this protest vote needs an outlet and voice, Sanders the people's choice Vs. Trump the Billionaire it would have been over at half time.

    Instead Trump the Billionaire became the voice of reason against the career politicians of the Clintons and she sealed her own fate with the deplorables comment. Trump even offered to debate with Bernie during the 2016 primaries, Sanders called his bluff and agreed, Trump then backed out as it was obvious that Sanders would inflict heavy casualties on the Trump Campaign. I firmly believe that if Bernie had the chance to run we would be into Bernie's second term now. Trump would be another Mitt Romney and Biden would be unheard of.

    I like Bernie due to his integrity, he fights for what he believes in , he is not corrupt, he is not a career politician at the trough like the Clintons, Bidens et. al. We have seen this with US Forces rolling into Syria on Day 1 by Biden, Trump was staunchly anti-interventionist as Sanders would be too, a George Galloway type of character. Sanders gives two fingers to the system in a more roundabout way than Trump who is just a bull in a china shop.

    Respect for Bernie, one man and his mittens from a staunch Trump loyalist.

    I like Bernie too. However I think you are mis-characterising him in several ways
    1. He isn't a straight up socialist - despite how he is portrayed by Republicans. He is a Democratic Socialist. That's the difference between the old USSR and modern day Sweden.
    2. He's been in politics since 1981. Hard to argue that he's not a career politician at this stage
    3. Just because they both opposed the invasion of Iraq any comparisons with George Galloway are inaccurate and extremely unflattering to Sanders


    Hard to imagine that Sanders could have won the general election in either 2016 or 2020. The Republicans would have absolutely loved to have been up against him. Their usual "The Democrat is a Socialist" message that they use on everyone would have been even more effective than normal. They'd have frightened the life out of the middle classes about him raising taxes and redistributing it to "entitlement" programmes.

    Bernie went to the USSR on his honeymoon so that probably would have been a month's worth of negative coverage insinuating that he was a communist or a spy.

    No doubt there probably would have been plenty of George Soros type stuff made about his religion doing the rounds on the likes of Facebook.

    Another problem for him was that for some reason he was never able to drum up much support among African Americans. If they don't turn out then it tends to end badly for Democratic candidates.

    Far too decent and principled for the seedy world of politics.

    Even after the DNC rigging the primary against him, he campaigned his bollocks off for Hillary and Biden.

    Brought universal healthcare to forefront of American politics...extremely impressive.

    I'd have to reluctantly concede the chances of the democrats winning with Bernie as candidate would have been appreciably less than with Biden for reasons that have been well documented and discussed. However, i think the path has been forged for future left leaning candidates to go one step further, whether thats AOC or someone else. That will be partly Sanders legacy. If the left in the uk could get someone with his charisma and integrity, and with his relative lack of baggage, they could make some serious ground too. Not many obvious candidates i can identify though.

    That particular poster makes up stories to suit whatever narrative he's pushing. I'm not sure he understands what the word integrity means.

    He's no pbp , but in Irish terms Bernie would definitely be a centre-left social democrat / labour politician,

    which by the US's metric would make him bordering on far left.

    Im not a fan of his policies and would never vote for him, but the guy is consistent and has integrity.

    I like the idea of Bernie as president more than him being actual president.
    At his age he still has a lot of fire and passion.

    Love Bernie, if there were 50 more of him in the senate that country would be in a much better place but his disciples are making gains.

    What he did lately with the merchandise is another testament of his basic goodness. He is just a good honest man, and that makes him somewhat unique in the political landscape.

    Shame the voters weren't ready for him but hopefully his legacy is that of an agent of change.

    "People say ‘go with the flow’ but do you know what goes with the flow? Dead fish."
