You'd want to be some lowlife to try that. Presume they're trying to get a list of people who live alone to burgle later. Scumbags

I doubt they'd take on anything as high risk as that. Visiting people's home would leave them very vulnerable to being physically caught. Particularly by a scam bait. They just want secure personal details. Id wager the calls are coming from the usual call centres outside of Ireland.

I remember mid-November we had a peak of 1,200 cases and our case numbers were hovering around the 900 mark but construction and schools were kept open, if this trend continues logic suggests we should be able to open those in early February

Very bad figures for a Sunday....cant read too much into them...will have to wait until Tuesday to get a better idea of how its going.
Last Sunday was 2946, Sunday before was 6886...
1378 is heading in the right direction.

Todays cases are 20% of the Sunday cases 2 weeks ago

    There was backlog there

Still positive, let's hope it continues

Be interesting to see the swab figures, hard to know is it good or not until we see those.

7 day average is 2125 case per day. 10335 less cases this week than last.

Good numbers today. As you'd expect to see after 3 weeks I guess. The trends looks very positive.
I also think the snow has lifted people's spirits.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

There are a cohort of people out there, quite a significant amount actually, yourself included who don’t want this pandemic to ever end. For whatever personal reasons they have be it an anti social withdrawn personality, or a chip on their shoulder about life.

I might sound crazy but I detect an air of disappointment with figures being so low today. A disingenuous urge to caution and understated response. It confirms my suspicions that a cohort of Irish people enjoy the misery and would happily like some form of lockdown forever as everyone's lives ascend/descend to the mean.

Was there hotel parties, gatherings with UK returnees too there?

Yes . Huge emigrant return for the all Ireland and xmas. Party in the hotel on 26th, etc etc look at yesterdays Irish Times article, or recent Mayo News issues.

This would help massively if we followed the UK's lead on this but it would have to be for all countries or none, nothing in between would work

And if it's on all UK basis so includes entry to NI but not sure will it be from travel to UK to NI. Say DUP won't be happy but feck em

Cr@p! You're projecting what you want to see.

No sane person would be happy with 23 deaths and over 1300 new cases.

Catch yourself on. Where do you think you've detected this? The media are all over the serious state we're in and emphasised that being Sunday the could would be lower.

100% nail on head. A lot of people are enjoying the misery of it all. Plus you have the couch potato crowd on PUP watching Netflix all day who would do anything to avoid returning to work. And why shouldn’t they when they can get close to their old wages for sitting at home.

I think its great news. We are finally starting to get a handle on it.

That means people are taking Level 5 seriously.

Of course we would like less deaths but always knew that unfortunately they will remain high as people can pass away weeks after they first got Covid.

I say some people are more scared with anxiety than enjoying misery

If the case numbers are in the low hundreds by them how can level 5 be justified

Lol at RTE News . Interviewing a funeral director while he slowly walked through a graveyard . Could they be anymore dramatic if they tried .

i think those are good points actually and someone below mentions people prefer misery to anxiety. its very interesting actually - comparing the anxiety of modern day life with the misery of lockdown. if anyone fancies some research - well here you go. its worth exploring.

Case numbers were in the low hundreds before Christmas when we opened up
