Have a Virgin Media Hub 3, and want to connect an 8—port switch to this (have multiple wired devices). However, I also want to keep some wired devices connected directly to the Hub as they are in the same room as it. It would look like:

3 ports of the Hub wired directly to devices, Hub acting as a switch.
Last port of the Hub connected to the 8-port switch, all other devices connected to this switch.
The whole thing acting as one network.

Will this work, and how do I set it up correctly? Worried that the Hub and the 8-port switch will conflict.

If its a dumb switch it will work just fine.

Your setup is exactly what a switch is designed for.
