Typical of America to plant thousands and thousands of flags everywhere for the inauguration.

    Americans really do love flags.

    Yeah, very nice.

Senate Democrats planning to move a new bill. It's certainly a good one for democracy and elections.

    Bill can be read here

The fact that that bill would make it easier to vote means that it will be filibustered by the Republicans in order to prevent its passage.

That said I think the Democrats should still introduce it. It's the sort of bill that is hard to oppose apart from on cynical grounds so may as well get some TV time of Republican Senators doing exactly that - bonus points if they are up for re-election in 2022.

And they still haven't said anything about pardons.

    Typical.

Ordinarily I would detest US flag worship but if inauguration must take place out there, I can't think what else to do with the space. Leaving it empty would give the ceremony more of funereal feel. So Symbolically, It's not the most vulgar gesture

Memorial service to the Covid dead. Biden/Harris doing what Trump would never do.

Will they be implementing social distancing in Capitol Hill?

Change the record ffs. You’d assume that the incoming Biden and Harris administration will follow the experts advice to keep people safe. What an awful thing to do.

It was very nice. The lights along both sides of the pool was simple but powerful.

The scenes from Capitol Hill are a worrying insight into American attitudes to Covid. If the politicians can't be bothered to socially distance, no wonder the death toll is so high.

Oh so it’s the politicians fault ? And here was I thinking it was a respiratory virus that was the problem. The politicians(at least the democrats anyway) are taking this virus seriously.

Not from what I seen in the Capitol. Both parties behaving irresponsibly.

I suspect we'll see something similar for the show tomorrow - scenes that will surprise Europeans.

Do you believe any of the rubbish you write?

Absolute bland nothingness on repeat. Why do you bother?

An attitude that was started by the outgoing president year ago.

Aye thankfully it went away at the intermission and didn't carry on for 4 more years!

Has there ever been a moment of silence during an inauguration address ? That was a new one to me.

Anyone that is anywhere near proceedings would have gotten tested. It looks very sparsely populated compared to normal. Your faux concern is quite transparent, like all of your posts really.

Has one ever been so warranted?
It was apt, and a great speech too overall.
